New AR15 Build Idea I Had.

Your gun is coming together nicely, there's 2 uppers I've wanted to build the last few years, a 18-20ish 556 for cheap mid range plinking and a 16-18 light barrel 6 arc for hunting that handles a little better then my 22" arc. But with recent events I'm thinking a rugged carbine to fend off invaders/shtf In lu of what's happening in the east. So I need to pick up a lower or 2, a good pinned 14.5 or 16" chrome lined barrel , chrome bcg, ridged handguard, like to get a acog see how money goes.

I was curious, so I had to go look... Jeepers, how many CoD: Modern Warfare 2's do they have, now? ...4? I'm still rocking the original CoD:MW2 from 2009... on my Intel 2500K, by the way.
Yeah they re booted the MW series in 2019... So now they have MW1 (2019) and MW2 (2022) and MW3 is coming next month I think. I kinda want that charging handle I posted on my first post on here since it's featured in MW2 (2009) on the M4. Gives it a more "old earth" feel since it's something used back then apparently as part of the actual Ranger M4 kits?? Cause I have the A2 stock for the old school M16 look, and i figure added stuff like the ACOG would be a new future-ish modern touch but ancient compared to what they would have in 2330 lol. 300 years of optics advancement...... Hmmm.

Yeah stuff is getting weird, like 5.56 ammo at online shops is getting bought up like crazy right now. Even our wholesale places are showing spotty inventory. So maybe it's a good idea to buy more primers?
Anyway back on topic, I will try to pull some stuff together and get the 1k+ for the ACOG sooner than later.
So I guess we both have similar taste in rifles then... Good ol carbines with decent parts and nothing super crazy?

If you want a futuristic AR, look no further than a Hera Arms stock set.

I don't know why, but that thing is sort of cool... and I'm Mr. A1 Keep It Simple Stupid. It's like the ugly, quiet girl at the high school dance...

I really, really want to build an -A1 like I carried in the Army, back in the '80's... just a basic iron-sighted rifle like the good 'ole days. Palmetto makes the goods, but it's likely going to wind up costing me what I spent on my DRM build... so I don't know that I'll ever really get to it.

My Colt Match Sporter (basically an M16) is one of my favorite ARs. Its crazy how $$ it is to even build a clone now.

Gubmint buying it up for Ukraine and Israel prolly.

After I got out, I ran out as soon as I could and bought the first Colt I found... an A2 H-bar. As much as I like it, it has it's issues... like the worst trigger evarrrr on a match rifle, and the fact that it's a Big Pin. But, still, the configuration is nearly correct... if I could only find a set of triangular A1 forearms... ;)

So I found these from Chattanooga who we have a dealer account with. Seems like a much better bang for the buck than spending 1500 plus on an ACOG setup.
Plus with this crazy Israeli conflict starting to heat up I might be better off spending that money on components to load my own 77gr ammo.
And I've heard online that these Burris rt6 scopes are pretty good for the money...

The Burris is a good choice but for reliability and toughness the acog can't be beat for the money. Eurooptics has some for under a grand. I've been looking at the ta31f. The acogs with the battery look good but for my first one I want the most bomb proof acog.

This got me looking at Starfield. It looks interesting. That said, I am busy taking work-related programming classes that take all my spare time until next May.

That will give them time to work the bugs out.

Friend of mine has a very similar setup on his AR... seems like a decent scope. The backup dot on top makes it a very tall setup on the AR, which I don't care for. The smaller tube doesn't make it a very bright scope, however, but that's not a Burris thing.

My Savage 10TAC has a Burris scope on it... I think it's a very nice scope, and was reasonably less expensive than the other big names.

wish they still had them in the glass with sugar.
Hard to find as an in-stock 6arc upper, sadly.

Real problem is shipping glass bottles is complicated. Walmart will ship cans nationwide. Amazon will claim to ship bottles--but that probably requires FedEx or the like and probably costs more in shipping than the product.

Or, much like shopping for 6arc uppers.

I used to have a bro with a spread out near Hico, just a skip and a jump from Dublin, the last place Imperial Sugar DP was bottled. It was some nice varmint shooting. Sadly, all of those have passed into history, recessions and the couf having finished them each off in their turn.

Ok so I ordered an Aero Precision Phosphate BCG with a C158 bolt for 115 bucks and a standard charging handle for 18 bucks through one of our wholesalers. Also 3 bricks of Winchester #41 primers and a 500ct case of 77gr SMKs. Sure am glad I'm not paying retail price for primers....
I decided a standard CH was good enough and I don't really need an ambi CH to be frank. And plus all the parts for the upper besides the barrel are Aero Precision so it's all one cohesive unit.

The project looks like it's coming together. If you've never run an ACOG, I'd suggest borrowing one, or at least actually seeing one, before getting one. The TA31 is an excellent optic, but there are some nuances to it and turns a lot of people off.

The eye relief is short at about 1.5" which means you're likely gonna have a hard time getting a proper sight picture with a full length fixed stock, depending on how big you are. I'd suggest getting a cantilever mount for a VCOG and mounting it backwards. This will allow you to get the ocular pretty far back.

As for the RT6, it's a good scope ... for the money. If you want a small scope that rivals the image quality of an ACOG, check the Steiner P4xi with the P3tr reticle. They can be had used for around $500. Personally, I wouldn't trade my ACOG for either an RT6 or P4xi, but the ACOG does take some accommodating.

You mean like this? Just found some today at a local grocery store here in Oklahoma.

Dang send me some lol, I need to look around and see if there's any local. Got a few of the 1L dr peppers this week to sip on but it's not the same. I envy you older guys that had the real soda growing up, one store I go to bad a old coco cola machine from the 50s I think and it's still ¢10 there in a 4-6 oz glass bottle.

Ok got out to test fire it and it worked flawlessly with some 52gr and 77gr handloads. Shot super smooth. Pretty accurate. The SilencerCo Hybrid 46M makes it super quiet, sounds like a 22lr unsuppressed to me.

5 rounds of 77gr SMKs over 23.4gr of TAC. Was using the Leupold RDS. It's a darn good optic. 1 moa dot! Thinking of just using it instead of getting an ACOG... I really need to save money lol.
