Well, finally got the GI in from Buds (unusual amount of communication problems getting the gun shipped, don't understand that) but it finally got here. Looked good out of the box. Worked the slide. The recoil spring felt weird to me. Sights were better than I expected on this pistol, in terms of size. The grips seem a bit thick to me. I probably will replace them with some slightly thinner walnut ones I have laying around. This thing is tight as a drum! Disassembling it, I decided it was almost too tight. Has to bang the bushing off with a nylon wrench. The slide release was hard to get out. The insides had a bit of brown to them. Still not certain if it was rust or a strange preservative. Cleaned it up with some Hoppes and oiled it up with some FP-10. Took it to the range today to try it out. Took along some Wilson 47 Ds, the ACT mag that came with the gun, a KimPro mag, and an original Kimber mag that had come with my Stainless II a few years ago. Shot 117 rounds through it. 51 Federal 230 grain FMJs, 50 reloads (230 grn Berrys plated over 4.7 grns of TiteGroup), and 8 Federal HSTs, and 8 Golden Sabers. The gun did extremely well for the first fifty round or so. Cycled all types of ammo. Cycled both sets of hollow points like a champ. Gun did seem to be shooting low, but it could have been me, not used to this size gun. Groupings were decent. Did not seem to feel any more recoil than with my 5 inch guns. The only stoppage was a failure to return to battery on the last round from the Kimber original mag. I have had a lot of problems with that mag, so was not too suprised. It will be relegated back to snap cap duty. As the gun got dirtier, some problems began to emerge. several FTBs. A slap to the back of the slide would return the gun to battery, but was a little concerning to me. I am not sure the stock spring is adequate. Believe I will order a 18 lb Wolff spring for it and see if that helps. I am hoping the problems will disappear with time. Overall, a decent shooting pistol. I was a little suprised at how well it cycled the HPs. My RIA is a bit picky about that. Going to clean it back up and take it out again after the new spring comes in. Has anyone else had problems with FTB in these guns?

My FX-GI had to be cleaned well because it appeared to have been stored in a barrel of oil before I got it. Once I detail stripped it and cleaned it the gun has been flawless. Mine has a serial number under 300 and I have aprox 7-800 rds through it now with no problems. It loosens up a little after a while but not overly so.

I like mine quite a bit and it has entered into the rotation for daily carry. I would like to swap the grips on mine also but have been too lazy to order another set. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyrd mine.
