As soon as I saw this thing I knew I had to have it for my collection- a pellet pistol sporting a gas piston? Hell yeah! Unfortunately it's only available in .177 so far, but I figured it would still add some fun when I head out with our other airguns.

I grabbed one at Wal-Mart to save waiting on shipping, plus given the mixed reviews I knew it'd be an easy return if need be... now I'm wondering if need be!

I knew the sights would be crap, so a red-dot sight would soon follow. That I can live with, 'specially since the gun was only $72. What I can't live with is the air leaking out of the breech right out of the box! Even at 10' the pellets bounce off a 2x6, something that just shouldn't be. I tried the ole "tissue test", holding a tissue over the breech while I fired at the target. Sure enough, the leak was enough to blow right through the tissue.

I've seen another purchaser noting the same problem, but I don't know if it requires a exchange-and-hope or if it's something I can easily fix. Being right out of the box I don't think that particular problem should be demanding my attention (unlike the sights, which is a well documented issue up front) before I just return the thing, but I'd rather do any minor tweeks and call it done. Any ideas or known cures would be much appreciated!

I would exchange it. You shouldn't have to do anything to the gun out of the box but load, shoot, and enjoy. Neither Crosman nor Wal Mart will have any problem making it right.

Lucky for me, Wally World just extended their shopping hours on Sundays, so I was there bright and early for an exchange.

As I had suspected, that one must have been a return- no English copy of the manual, and also all the packing grease had been wiped off- unlike the one I traded it in for!

A quick shot revealed a minor leak using the tissue test as well as the fact the pellet bounced off that 2x6 again, which kind of pissed me off. I took another shot, this time at the shop wall, since it's all natural pine (never kiln dried) and the pellet embedded nicely. Either I have the strongest 2x6 around or these pistols really don't have all that much power.
I wasn't expecting a beast since I had already read the specs, but I guess this will do- it's just for an extra toy to have in the arsenal. Any serious endeavors will call for my Ruger Yukon, which is a real work of art.

BTW, I did send Crosman an email about the first one, so hopefully I can apply their advice to seal this one up better.

Fire Straight- and Often!
