I found a 686 Onyx for a really great price on Gunbroker, so I went for it. I was somewhat apprehensive since the price was almost too good, but I picked it up tonight and the thing is still stiff. Broke it down, cleaned it, lubed it, and generally gave the attention it deserved but apparently never got. Clearly it had never been cleaned. It wasn't the barrel length I wanted, but I am going to shoot it for a few months and if I want the longer barrels I'm pretty sure I can make a couple hundred bucks off of it and buy another with longer barrels.

The high here in the beautiful MetroMess tomorrow is going to be a whopping 43 degrees with wind chills in the 20's. I don't care, I'm going to shoot it anyway provided the club is open.

Now for the surprise. I have had less than stellar experiences with Beretta's services. However, I found a web page on their site that let you order a manual. Just put in your name and particulars and the gun model and serial number. I figured I would get a manual in 8 or 10 weeks. Nope, 4 count em 4 days and it was in my mailbox, free of charge. Will wonders never cease.

Excellent - if the Beretta type fit you, even better!. Follow the manual and do not over-lubricate and the gun will be passed down a generation or two in great shape

What gauge and barrel length?
Matte or glossy blued?
You might find a trade if you list those things.
Congrats.....I really want a Blackwing in 28ga.
