So this is the rifle my dad decided he wanted to use for his long distance shooting. I picked it up for my FFL buddy yesterday I'm going to go register it on Wednesday so hopefully we'll get a chance to shoot it soon.

My initial impressions of this rifle are excellent. As a note the Premiers are 100% US made.

Fit and finish is really good, the action operates smoothly, and the amalgamation of other designs is both interesting and functional.
Most of the design is Remington 700 with normal custom tweaks, like a side bolt release and an aftermarket trigger (The premiers come with a trigger tech primary). They also use a coned breach Ala Winchester 70, and a Savage style replaceable bolt head that also includes the blast baffle that seals the raceways.
There's very little slop in the action while running the bolt and the bolt lift is lighter than my Christensen's.
The internal design of Bergara's bolts differs from a 700. The threads holding the shroud on are different (finer) and the firing pins are designed differently.
The Cerakote is applied evenly and it looks like they use a rougher substrate than Christensen does. The muzzle and thread protector are Cerakoted as one piece so underneath the thread protector there's bare stainless.

If there's one thing that gave me a pause it's the stock, it feels a little strange having an injection molded stock on a $1,400 gun.
That said the stock is both stiff and extremely well executed. Cheek riser adjustments are easy and positive, and the length of pull, while not push-button easy, is made simpler due to the cutouts in the spacers, Three of which come with the gun.
Another interesting thing I found is that the bolt handle is not threaded, it is one piece and has the oversized tactical knob (or if it is threaded I can't find a seam).

I'm hoping to pick up the rest of the parts to assemble a gun on Monday has my FFL buddy forgot to bring them with him when he brought the gun to town yesterday. I might go out there this afternoon though just to get out of the house for a while.
Rounding out the parts list are.....
A Talley 20moa 8-40 screw (as opposed to a 700 action with 6-48) 700 short action rail.
Sig 30mm medium rings.
Dad also chose my Sightron S-tac 3-16x42 as the scope he wanted on it.
The muzzle brake is going to be a VG6 Gamma 6.5.
I ordered him a set of electronic earmuffs to go with his new noisemaker also.......

I'll update this after I get the whole thing assembling we get out and shoot it.
I'm also looking forward to comparing it directly to my Christensen Mesa Long Range as they're very similar in fit and function.

I'll add some pictures in a little bit. I have to sit down at my computer, or steal my phone back from my son......

I have a couple buddie that have the Pro models. One has one of the models that come in a chassis. Also a 6.5 Creedmoor. That rifle easily shoots 1/2 MOA and Ive personally shot it out to a mile with factory Hornady 147 ELDM. The other, got the 300 Winmag version of the HMR Pro about a year or so ago. He said it shoots right along side their two custom 300s.

I agree that the stock is a bit different. I dont think it feels as good as a McMillan or a Manners, but it's probably the best factory stock Ive ever used.

I was quite pleased with my regular B-14, and im expecting this one to shoot right alongside my other heavy rifles.....I don't know if I've ever heard a bad thing about the Bergara Premiers actually.
Ive been very happy with the Bergara injection molded stocks, having used them a couple times for projects, and the HMRs about the nicest of the bunch....I agree tho they ARNT a McMillan or Manners in terms of feel, but in use, I doubt my Dad or I will be able to tell a difference :D

See, why won't they put that stock on the regular hmr instead of the brown one? I want a bergara, but only the brown hmr comes in left hand. Loonwolf, let me know how it compares to the Christianson. That was another one I am considering.
The Premiers don't have a left-hand version, unfortunately, so this color stock isn't available in left hand....even tho there's mold lines where the left-hand bolt recess would be.
The Wilderness HMR also doesn't appear to come in left hand :(
So far in a non-shooting side-by-side comparison I still like my Mesa LR a bit better, simply due to feel (heavier barrel, more weight up front. The HB version of the HMR Pro would probably cancel that out) and the fact its got an internal magazine. The HMR stocks are easier to adjust but lack the vertical adjustability of the recoilpad/buttplate, and while very jellybeanie I prefer the way the Mesas stock feels.
Action wise I think the features of the Bergara Premier are actually a little nicer...tho ill take the m16 extractor and dual ejectors on the Mesa over the single ejector and sliding extractor on the Premier.

Honestly, it looks great. You could do worse for $1400.
My Dad's really happy with it, and I'm quite pleased as well.
I tried to get him to go with another Mesa LR, simply because I really liked mine, but for him, I think the HMR Pro with its lower weight and easier adjustability is actually a better option. Im fairly sure his gun is gonna come out a couple of pounds lighter than mine, and will actually be useable as a general hunting rifle.

Enjoy. I bought one in 6.5 PRC and it’s a shooter. Still need to get to a range where I can really stretch its legs.
Give use a range report when you get a chance to stretch it out! Im still waffling on another go round with the 6.5PRC, and I could see having an HMR Pro in said chambering :D

Take a look at the MDT XRS stock. I put one on my HMR and like it fine. They retail around $400. I wish I had a premier HMR. They are very nice! Enjoy.
Thats a good looking stock.
Well see how my dad likes the factory one for now. If he wants to go to something else later Ill add that one to the list, thanks!
......actually I might buy one of those for the .22-250AI im building for my FFL buddy.....

Very nice. I just picked up a Savage 110 Tactical in 6.5 CM, which I won in a Shriners raffle. Just ordered a scope & mount for it. It'll be my first foray into LR shooting, though I'll eventually try my AR-10 at the same thing, just not expecting the same results. Never know, though.

Spent the day out shooting with Dad. We had his new HMR, the 28 Nosler, and the Carbon 700 I built a while ago out. Shot paper at 240yds to just get a zero then clanged away at the 10" gong I set up at 500 yds. Ill type out a detailed comparison later...or maybe not they were so similar....but my impression so far is that id really just buy the one you like the looks of better.
I have some video on my phone, but didnt bring my spoter or stand so dont have very many pictures. We also didnt spend alot of time shooting paper since the 6.5 loads were mostly cobbled together leftovers.....also the scope rail on the nosler shook loose at some point after getting it sighted, tho I did at least get chrono data and bang steel for a while before it came loose.
Dad on his new gun

Only two shots fired without an adjustment. The nosler was 2' low and It took me 2 shots to find the holes.
PXL_20210811_235952075.jpg

I measured the adjustments in the reticle and corrected then put the third round into a 1" shootnc.

Dads gun bore-sighted and only took two shots to almost hit the same shootnc.....his AR was less accurate.....that took a decent part of the day to work out.
...again pictures to follow...eventually.
His hit percentages were probably about 80-90 after the first few shots to get adjusted...again the AR was significantly lower...maybe 2-4 in 10.
All in all tho I was really impressed with how well dad shot.

I was doing fine with the 28 till it started shooting rings around the gong, and 5 or 6 shots in I realized it had a loose mount...actually counted shells it was closer to a dozen before i figgured it out......

Did the same this spring. It liked Hornady120gr Match Factory a lot.
Savage was one of the options I suggested to him when he went shopping. Accuracy wise they hang in with the best. The HMR Pro was what someone on youtube he likes was using. So he went with that....
Can say it wasnt a fantastic choice tho. IT IS a savage with all my complaints about them fixed, its also a 700 with all my complaints fixed......

This Left handed B-14 took a cow elk at 630 yards.
