I've had a 7.5 inch blue Blackhawk in 45 Colt for twenty years. It's strong, more accurate than I can shoot it, and looks good: all the things we expect from a Blackhawk. But I was never very comfortable with the grip, especially with heavier loads. My hands are a lot bigger than average and I figured that was that. (Oddly, the smaller grip on my 50th Anniversary 357 Blackhawk are incredibly comfortable. Go figure!)

At a recent gunshow I came across some Uncle Mike's custom grips for less than twenty bucks and I thought what the heck, let's try them. My gosh, what an improvement! The Blackhawk now points more naturally and even my heaviest loads are comfortable to shoot. I'm not a great pistoleer but at the first session after installing the grips I took a good inch or more off my groups at 25 and 50 yards. Same gun, same shooter, same ammo. The only difference was the grip. Wish I had done this years ago. I use the Blackhawk for Hunter's Pistol competition and I'm curious to see if my scores improve.

Did I just luck out or is this change typical of properly fitting revolver grips? Now I would like to find some grips that will do the same for my 357 Redhawk.
Cheap and effective! What a great combination.

Did you buy the rubber grips with finger grooves?

If so, I've heard they make a big difference to a lot of people. The only down side is that they make the gun look very bad, IMHO.

I bought new grips for my 4 5/8" Vaquero in .45 Colt, ones that were a bit wider than the stock grips. The beefier feel vastly improved the performance of the gun in my fat hands.

Stock grips rarely ever fit right for me. One of the first things I do when I get a new revolver is seek out better grips.

Lawson,

I've got a New Vaquero in 45 Colt. The grip is comfortable but I would like to be more accurate with it. If you have the New version, what kind of grips did you get?
