The phone lines were down so I had to wait an hour to pick it up, went shooting while waiting. Final the lines were back up and I took some 9mm I brought that were FTE from my wife's 9mm (not worried about ejection here). Wouldn't fire, so like a dummy, I didn't read the manual first. Safety prevents the firing pin from firing but the hammer will still work. So I fixed the safety to fire, really hard trigger pull. Studied the manual some more (get the hint here), and notice the hand grip was low on the handle, which makes you have a lower trigger finger. One I had studied the manual, and held the gun right, it fired like a charm. I had a round that was a normal factory round, tried it, could tell the difference from the lighter rounds. As long as you have a low trigger pull, easy gun to shot. Not sure if I will use it as a back up, or just another fun show gun to shoot

Just wondering what phone lines " being down' have to do with shooting this particular gun but not others as well as what you mean by bringing some ammo with you?

My assumption is that he was purchasing this pistol, but the phone lines being down delayed approval on his 4473, so he went to the attached range and fired either a pistol he already owns or a range rental while he waited.

As to your second question, if I understand it, he had some rounds that were light handloads from a batch that his wife's pistol wouldn't cycle ( too light a load), so he used them to test the Derringer, and also tried a commercial round ( loaded to standard pressure).

ramone

That was my take as well. Phone lines were down so no background check, went to the local range to do some shooting, came back and finished purchase of Bond Arms derringer, and went back to the range and tried out some loose rounds of 9mm. in it.

Yeah, it was at the pro-shop at the local range, I had ordered the gun, it was waiting for me, since I have a concealed permit they just needed to call the state to verify before the sale and the phone system to the state was down. Sorry about that. bond.jpg The phone lines were Went over the the range side and shot my other guns until the phone lines were up. Probably added way too much detail :). Ramone and bannockburn had it down. A fun gun to shoot, I prefer the lighter rounds the FTE from my wife's 9mm, they fire fine from this gun.

The Bond is the best-built derringer currently available, but it's not practical as a backup gun.
Too big, too heavy, too slow to shoot & reload, not as accurate as better choices.

Up to you, just suggesting you don't get too carried away with the novelty factor. :)

My LCR 357 is my primary carry, this Bond Backup (that is the name of the gun) is only two oz's heavier at 18oz. Not sure what you mean by big, it's my 2nd smallest gun (size and weight), next to a cheap Jennings J-22 (unreliable). I think as in closure between the seats, on on my kayak it would be ok as a back. Yes, it is slow, haven't shot enough to determine accuracy. My wife carries, so that's my preferred back up :).

The Bond does not offer an efficient size/weight ratio to overcome its heavy trigger, two-shot capacity, lack of accuracy, and slow firing operation.

It's a heavy gun for a two-banger.
It's a bulky gun for a two-banger.
It's awkward & slow to get those two shots off.
The barrels are not necessarily regulated well.
The sights are lesser quality.
Practical range is limited, in a stress situation.
Re-loading is very slow.
As a primary, or as a backup, it is simply inefficient in a self-defense role.

I've worked with Bonds, I know what they do & are.
We still have one here.

If you choose to bet your life on this platform, with all of its deficiencies as a defensive tool, that's your choice to make.
I merely suggest that you don't let the novelty value overcome reason in the decision.
There are numerous other platforms in the form of lighter, faster, more accurate, and easier to re-load formats that are much more efficient.

So, it's a two shot SA derringer that is heavier than your five shot primary DA revolver. I think that's what Denis was talking about as far as practicality.

Also, how can it be second smallest on your personal continuity scale when you say it's heavier than your LCR?

Wouldn't it be Jennings >>> LCR >>> Bond Backup?

Don't know about back up, but it's my steering wheel gun with ooobuck in it. Still my favorite truck gun.
