I bought a new Buckmark Camper from Academy two days ago. I tried it out tonight at the range and it had a couple failures to fire. I cleaned the pistol (I thought I cleaned it well) before I shot it. I was using Remington bulk ammo (the kind you get from Walmart) and Remington subsonic. Both had issues. Now, I know what you're saying, "Prince Yamato, clean your pistol, go back tomorrow, and shoot again with different ammo..." I would do that, except when cleaning my pistol even more thoroughly, I lost the damn firing pin retaining pin down the sink! I ordered two more from Brownells along with a new firing pin (just in case). Then I ordered a pac-lite threaded upper from RimFire Sports (so that I can shoot away with my AAC Pilot suppressor).

Anyhow, I guess my question is this: some of the ammo (primer) lacked a firing pin mark on it. Can I assume that was an issue with the pistol? If so, that should be easily corrected by a more thorough cleaning and/or a new firing pin, yes?

If you shut off the water you can remove the U joint(everyone has one, required by law) underneath the sink and fish out your pin, or tie a magnet to a string and drop it down, assuming the pin is magnetic..

I don't know about your pistol, sorry, but I know lots of people have trouble with remington ammo because it's so waxy. Perhaps try federal or Aguila, I've had success with these two brands in buckmarks. (I do not own the buckmarks, have rented them at ranges or used a friend's)

You know, now that I think about it, I've had Failures to Fire with this same ammo in my Walther P22 as well... hmm... perhaps it is bad ammo... I totally stripped the pistol when I got home. Since I lost the firing pin retaining pin, I had time to remove the grips and inspect all the internals; remove them, clean them, and then figure out how to put everything back together again. I'll let ya'll know how this pans out. I expect the parts to come in within the next week or two.

If the barrel isn't tightened down well, the firing pin can hit out far enough on the edge of the rim enough to cause problems.

This is a good suggestion. Also check to ensure that the top two screws holding down the sight rail are tight. If the top rail is loose, the firing pin will not be in proper alignment and will not dent the rim of your cartridges.

Of all the Browning Buckmarks that I have work on, loose screws are the most common cause of the issues.

Best regards.

What Craig said above. My guess would be loose screws on the rear sight rail also.

Rem bulk has been my worst for duds. I'd clean, lube & try different ammo. Don't clean your gun over the sink.

Yeah... lesson learned... :D

I will keep that in mind about the sight rail. I never really thought of that. I guess when I put it back on, I was overly worried about over-tightening the screws. Once the new firing pin retaining pin comes in, I'm going to put it all together and blue lock-tite the top rail.
