This fella is not a tin foil hatter So Ill ask if you guys have heard of this ---IF so this is defacto registration of me as a gun owner-..
There is alot of mis/disinformation flying around - So who knows whats real....

You answer the door with a rifle in one hand and a handgun on you hip and then tell them no you do not believe in firearms and do not own any.
I have not heard that at all but I would not put it past them to ask.

^ I know you're probably joking, but not a very good idea

http://www.dailycamera.com/news/2009/apr/28/census-worker-threatened-assault-rifle-allenspark/

An Allenspark man accused of yelling at a U.S. Census Bureau worker while holding an assault rifle faces a charge of felony menacing, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

Terence Housh, 53, was arrested Friday after census worker Alex Goulder called police to report the altercation.

According to an arrest report, Goulder approached Housh’s property to verify the address and Housh said, “This is private land. I’m not telling you anything.” Goulder said he showed his ID badge, tucked a flier into the door and began recording the house’s location, at which point Housh came outside and told Goulder he was trespassing.

Goulder left and worked at other houses, but had to drive by Housh’s residence because the circular road only exited near the home. When Goulder drove by, Housh was standing in front of his house yelling and holding a large black firearm. Goulder said he drove by quickly and didn’t see Housh point the gun at him, but he feared for his life.

When police contacted Housh, he said he had an assault rifle on his lap the entire time, like he always does, but had done nothing wrong.

I would think there are a few unscrupulous people that are employed by the census bureau. (Every profession has them.) There could be one that is making a list of houses to come back and rob when the census is complete and he is no longer employed.

Ahh, let me see now. Do I count my bb guns, air soft guns and paintball guns? Oh, just firearms? Hmmm. Geez, I've got so many I lost count. Then I sold a bunch to the nice looking Mexican boys who stopped by my garage sale last summer. I can't remember how many of my black assault weapons they purchased. I'm sorry, I just can't recall the exact number. What? You want me to guess? Ok, close to 50.

If everybody uses that approach, the estimated numbers of guns in the US will jump 10 to 20 fold, I'm guessing. I know there's guys who do own more than 50, but they are not the average. I have no clue what the average really is, but with an estimated 80 million gun owners and 280 million guns or so, I'd ventura a guess that it's around 3.5 guns per owner on average give or take a few 10ths of a point.

I heard they are employing ACORN to help conduct the census. Those guys are purely on the up and up. No need to worry about any shady characters or shenanigans with ACORN on the job.

They will also ask how many dogs you own, do you have a security system, and what hours you work. Those ACORN guys are just so inquisitive. :scrutiny:

You can google the census questions and see the form that they are using for 2010 Census, and no, there are no questions regarding firearms on it.

So why doesn't the government just send them out and let you answer the questions and then mail it back. Or, they could let you fill out the form on line and submit it that way. Why do we need to have warm bodies come to our neighborhoods to personally ask the questions? How much does that cost vs. the costs to mail out the forms or post an online form? Maybe the census takers are being employed in "shovel ready" jobs.

Guys,

I would normally call BS on something like this from a non-confirmed source as well, but my mother-in-law is helping with the census as well and has told me something similar regarding a "guns in the home" question. I remember this specifically because I asked her if they were also asking if their were Bibles, Korans, etc. in the household.

I am searching for something concrete and will post as soon as I can find it.

If I remember correctly though, this question may have been on some kind of "pre-census" questionnaire that only goes to certain households, not an all-inclusive-knock-every-door survey. Again I will repost with more info as I find it.

I promise I don't own or even borrow anyone's tinfoil hat...
