My wife bought me ....well, she said it would be my Christmas present. A Colt 1991A pistol that had been kept in a safe for many years never fired (except by the factory). I did a little research...asked a lot of internet experts and everyone said to buy it! It cost my wife $400.00. I tell everyone she's nearly perfect in every way ! (my wife of course), Colt's not bad either! It's ORM with black rubber grips and plain black sights and shoots well right out of the box! It has an accuracy preference for Hornady XTP but I'm going to try some Federal Hydroshocks and Speer GD to see how it handles them. I will try to talk my son into helping get some pictures posted. I thought I needed a Commander hammer to avoid hammer bite but there is no need. I will probably change that nylon/plastic/composite trigger and mainspring housing and keep everything else stock. Happy New Year!

I have the same pistol and I do carry it from time to time. Mine has also been 100% accurate and reliable.
Sounds like the pistol is a keeper and good for your wife for such a good Christmas present.
I look forward to the pictures.

You got a great gun there. Can I make a suggestion? Don't change anything on it unless it breaks. I think the biggest downfall of the 1911 design is that it's too easy for novices like me to tinker with. I'm sure mine would be more reliable if I had left them alone.

A commander hammer requires a different grip safety, triggers have to fit the frame and clear the magazine, etc., etc., etc.
