I didn't start out wanting a CZ.* As a matter of fact I have been sold on 2 models of Walther 9mm pistols starting about 5 years ago.....first it was the compact PPS for carry, then right as I was about to purchase an H&K P30, I found the PPQ which changed everything.* So naturally I purchased the PPQ 22lr. so I could have a 22 trainer and I was right on the verge of purchasing the 5 " PPQ(waiting for the prices to come down a little more),* when the P-09 caught my attention and I started researching and reading articles and reviews on it, and other CZ's.
**** What I discovered was another high quality manufacturer (CZ) that* I felt I could trust, and a 9mm in the size I was looking for and with very low felt recoil which is a big interest to me.* Even better was that I found the P-09 for $441.00, so with all the research I did (i was confident that I didn't even have to hold it) I went for it and ordered it.*
Grab a gun sent it out overnight FedEx, so after a few initial days of processing I had it in hand in less than a week.
I brought it initially to a "special" outdoor range (the closest safe place outside of city limits on public land) and ran a mag thru it straight from the box and it did not disappoint.* No hiccups or bobbles, flawless with factory grease and all......just the way it should be!
**** So after taking it home and doing a proper cleaning and lubing, took it back out again a few days later to my regular out door range.* I ran it side by side with my PPQ M1(4 inch)to get a better idea of its accuracy (in my hands) and function.*
I was pleasantly surprised at its very low felt recoil, and mostly ease of operation.* Its controls (slide release, and mag release) are not as convenient or easy as the Walther PPQ (no change of grip to operate any controls), but fine none the less. The grip ergonomics are great, but not nearly as excellent as the PPQ (Ive been spoiled) so i intend to try a rubber grip sleeve or some grip tape to try to get it a tad closer to the PPQ.* The sights also are a bit lacking (small) compared to PPQ, but I also don't have the time in with the CZ that I have with PPQ so I can't be too critical.
Shooting was excellent, and a delight.* Everything ive shot so far has been 115gr fmj.* Recoil was so light I was wanting to race thru the mags (and definitely lighter than the PPQ M1), but mostly held myself in check to get an adequate evaluation.* I have to give the slightest edge to the PPQ, but considering the sights and that the CZ is DA/SA, and brand new to me, I was thrilled.* I actually really like the fact that it's fairly different (DA/SA - hammer) than the precharged striker of the PPQ, keeps me interested and fondly brings me back to my earlier(hammer) days experience with Sigs.
I am fully impressed with CZs quality,* fit and finish is excellent! Can't wait to get back out and run many more rounds thru it. May make it my IDPA partner.* I will be looking to get new sights and may do the CGW package of trigger upgrades as well.* I've shot nearly every major brand* out there, and am not easily impressed.....but glad to say that CZ has now been added to my top choice of firearms family.....and I have a sneaking suspicion that this won't be the only CZ either!
