After trying to reload this evening
I noted a problem with high primers. The primer pin was not going high enough. I loosened the set screw on the primer bar holding the primer pin and with the handle mashed it down and tightened it. Did this several times. Also removed primer tube several times before finally noticing that the bottom screw holding the grey metal tray you push the rounds into the first station (the one with the clip) was loose and protruding and preventing the loading platform from going down as far as it can.
The screw was contacting the primer bar. Screwed it back in problem.solved.

Hopefully somebody will learn from my 1 hour experience.

I can sympathize with you. It took some initial tweaking with my Dillons to get them tuned just right. Fortunately, my experience is once set right and running smoothly they tend to stay that way.

As much as I like mine, some things just don't seem right. The warranty replacement/upgrade of the powder measure linkage on my 20+ year old RL550B is one example. The Anti-Return Cam on the upgrade bell crank hits the body of the measure on every return stroke of the operating handle. The Dillon tech said that was by design and would get "better" with use. I took "better" to mean the softer metal of the body would be slightly worn away by the Anti-Return Cam as he didn't make any effort to explain his statement. If it's going to "fix" itself over time via wear-in, why not just have design take care of that with a ever so slight shortening of the cam? Maybe not all body dimensions have been the same over the years.

But it works just fine and delivers the accuracy I've used to so I'll just do the wear-in thing and call Dillon when I need them.

There's a bolt that I slightly loosen so that it's less of a problem for me and I just think of that extra snap as a means of settling the powde.r
