Dillon 650: .45ACP primers too high

The parts arrived.
The first thing that was plainly obvious was the push rod was different than mine. Mine has the rod sticking out by about a good 1/8th inch.

The new one has the push rod flush. It is as if my old push rod's Spring was not pushing up the silver screw cover high enough to cover the rod tip. However, no coaxing, tugging, or pulling that I could do would get that silver cover to ride high enough to become flush with the top of the push rod.

Tried the new one. Voila! primer pushed up and in all the way.

Be sure to lightly grease the axle pin that goes through both the primer index arm and the primer disc.

I put 10W-30 oil on it. Good enough? Or, No?

thanks for suggestions all

primers

While we're on the subject of primers, i noticed that if i wait until the
"low primer alarm" goes off to fill the primer, the next several rounds
have no primers....

Anyone else have this problem\???????

woodfiler,

The only reasons I can think of that would cause that problem is the
follower rod is to long, or the primer feed body is to short. I dont believe the primer feed body got any shorter so check and see if what you have is the origional follower rod. This is all assuming the micro switch on the alarm is working properly.

BTW what type of primers , rifle-large/small pistol-large/small

On my 650 after the low primer alarm goes off I have 11 primers left. When I start out and fill the empty primer tube it is six pulls of the handle and the primers are in place and ready to reload.

On my primer alarm I have some left over. ( I haven't counted, tho').

When I fill up a rod with 100 primers and try to load them, I have to put about five or six back because there are still some left in the machine.

The one one the left is the old one. The one on the right is the new one.

The one on the left seems to be part of the problem, as when replaced with the one on the right, the problem seems to be rectified.
