I saw one of these today at a local gun shop, one I don't usually frequent. It was basically an 18" 870 copy for $149.00 new. I know these guys own Marlin, and I have a pretty good Marlin. What the deal with these, worth the price? BTW, are their semi-auto's any good?

NEF / H&R Shotguns

From what I read in a Guns and Ammo mag they are made in China and are imported by NEF. If money was tight and you need a good HD shotty, I would first try to find a used Rem, Moss, or Win and cut the barrel if needed. As for the NEF pump they might be a good copy of the rem but i'm sure the metel and overall durability could not match up with the 870, but for a non serious shotty they would be fun to have.

Thanks, I don't need one but any decent new gun for 149.00 I'll take a second look at. Might make a good shotty to keep at some land I have so I don't have to worry about someone stealing something expensive. One the other hand, I don't want to deal with a total, 100% POS. :scrutiny:

i have yet to hear of any issues with these shotguns that did not boil down to "it's made in china." i understand the shotguns themselves seem to be a fine value for the money, with good materials but rough finishing. it's just a question of whether or not it bothers you that it's manufactured by the chinese military.

I bought a made in China copy of the Ithaca, and paid $99.... would you pay $50, for the NEF brand on the label????
They are the same gun, but NEF marks them up, and sells them like they made it...
Is this fraud? Close to it....I think it is a fraud on the American consumer, when an American Company puts their name on a foreign made product....

The referenced web link says,

This line of self-loading 12-gauge shotguns represents the super-value of an imported shotgun built to the specifications and quality standards of H&R 1871. And they have the full backing of an H&R warranty.
That's pretty straightforward, I think.

Is Ithaca still doing that? I understood they went bankrupt again in September.
