Early this fall, after waiting for years for Ruger to produce a factory threaded 77/44, and even using the "ask the CEO" feature to suggest as much, I finally gave up, bought a regular 77/44 and had it threaded:

I'm really happy with how mine turned out, but apparently I gave up on a factory version about 3 months too early as I saw these on Ruger's website today:

It looks like they really did it right, using a belled muzzle to allow for a proper thread and a decent shoulder, all while retaining the irons.

Just wanted to toss this out there for anyone who's wanted something similar. You have to handload for best results, but mine is a real hoot with 300gr subs, one of my favorite rifles to shoot these days.

How is the accuracy and sound level with those handloads? I would think 300’s at ~ 800fps would be good pig bedicine over bait.

My rifle had some accuracy issues when I first got it, so I sent it in to Ruger for warranty work. They confirmed the problem, cut a new muzzle crown, messed with the bedding and got it shooting 2-3 moa with 240gr factory Winchester and AE loads. When I got it back I immediately sent it off to be cut and threaded.

It's no match rifle, but after trying several combinations, I've found some good loads for 300gr XTPs, 305gr GT cast hollow points and 300gr Missouri Bullet co powder coat Silhouette bullets.

Obviously "good enough" in this case is relative to my intended future use of plunking deer/hogs at 100yds or less.

The rifle is really fun to shoot, there's little recoil, and the 300gr XTPs hit water jugs pretty hard at 100 yds. Sound-wise I would say it's similar at the ear to my suppressed M&P 9mm with subs, impressively quiet. Velocities on the 305gr HP and 300gr MBC loads are running ~1,040 fps, haven't chrono'd the 300gr XTP load yet.

Yea they really did do it right with those 11/16x24 threads.

I really hate thin threads that don’t leave much metal between the inside of the bore and the outside threads. I’m always afraid I’ll bump or drop it and it will snap off or something.

I went with 3/4x24 threads on my custom TC encore .45 ACP barrel. Also have a SBR 77/357 that’s threaded 5/8x24. I really like both those two setups quite a bit!

So does anyone have any experience with Rugers customer service? I have a 77/44 I bought 10 years ago I’d like to have upgraded with this barrel. Think ruger would be up for it?

Gritting my teeth, repeat to self, "I do not need another rifle ..."

That looks nice. Well done, Ruger.

Man, if Ruger did that in a 77/327 Federal I would be one of two people who would buy one even though I have said I am done with Ruger.
