I have been collecting guns for years. Almost all of my long guns have been semi-auto except for several lever actions. I finally have gotten the bug for a good bolt gun for some target work. I just bought a Remington 700 VTR in 308. It will carry a Leupold VX-III in 4.5x14-50LR scope and a Harris bipod. As this is my first attempt at a target gun what would the best break in method be for this rifle. How many shots clean, how many shots, etc before I start looking at shooting it for groups sizes. Thanks for any help in advance

If you do it the way I did (after asking the same question), you'll have a couple hours ahead of you.

Fire one round, clean thoroughly, repeat ten times.
Fire five rounds, clean thoroughly, repeat ten times.
Fire ten rounds, clean, repeat x ten.

Of course, you can always look at the owner's manual and follow any instructions they offer, and if there are none in there, contact Remington and see what they recommend, or look on their website.

There is a lot of controversy about whether break-in is even needed. I did a lot of research on it, but that's been a couple years ago. Google "barrel break-in."

Good luck and have fun.
