New gun detection method stirs interest

Based upon the info posted on the Brijot web site, the system detects differences between the energy emitted by humans (signifcant) and metal plastic and like objects (virtually no energy emitted, and they block the energy emitted by humans). It seems that only works if the object is actually on your person. Use off body carry and their is no difference to detect.

Unless full screening of all belongings is a requirement of entry, like airports or high security buildings, this technology seems too easily defeated for widespread use. Though, in the right application, this should be a useful tool.

is it just me, or is this a solution looking for a problem?

it seems like the real problem is what to do about that guy with a gun once you've found him.

Ever See the Clint movie "line of fire?? that mold kit

was an actual CIA "issue" thing to some of their operatives, I've heard.

All cliches aside it seems like it could be a very valuable tool in places that are plagued by suicide bombers and gunmen.

A far more valuable tool would be a pistol on every hip.

Bomber would just stay away.

I think you must have missed the sarcastic smiley there. A suicide bomber scared of getting shot?

When he's going to blow himself up?

Hmmm.

Or would those with pistols on their hips somehow be able to shoot him before he detonates the bomb? Not sure it's that difficult to rig up a trigger mechanism that would detonate in that case and pretty sure Hamas et al already have that angle covered.

I think there'd be major 4th-amendment concerns about this type of thing.

Very Orwellian, if you ask me...
