Hello all,
Well It’s been four weeks since I got my L-N-L AP and I thought I would write about the fun I had loading for my Garand.
I have about 400 rounds of trimmed military brass that I wanted to load up using IMR/AA 4064.

So after I bolt the press to the bench I look through the directions again to see how to get it set up for the 06 (The directions leave a great deal to be desired). Bolt on the shell carrier, put the 06 dies in the bushings, adjust dies to this press, pull out the powder drop and clean out the factory storage preservative.
So after I run the handle up and down a few times to see if the timing is right on the shell plate I then check it with shell in it. Then I check the powder drop with IMR 4064 and found it full of static, so I drained the powder out and in dumped in some MICA, swished it around, no more static.
Once I got the powder charge adjusted with the micrometer insert it holds tolerance a lot more than my Dillon 550B powder drops ever did.:D

One thing that I forgot to mention was the primer feed. It seems after a little while the primer pickup thingy whould not go back far enough to pick up a primer, but since it is a black rubber wheel a put electrical tape on it to make it bigger. But after a while I remembered that I have ruber O rings and so I used one of those to make the primer mechanism to go back far enough to pick up a new primer.

i've had mine for about 3 weeks and i noticed the primer "shuttle" was not moving back all the way, too. there is to much friction with the subplate because the subplate has a slightly rough finish. i took off the priming system and then i took a scotch brite pad and polished the subplate where the shuttle slides. i reinstalled the priming system and now it slides very smoothly. give that a shot.

edit: my primer shuttle wouldn't move back far enough to pick up a primer everytime, so that's why i polished the rough parts. the cam bar was setup properly

Do you guys realize that the bar that move the shuttle back is adjustable? If you are all the way back you better call somebody.

Scot5, Glad to hear you're enjoying your new press.

Hmmm, I'm using a Lee Classic 4 hole turret I purchased just a few months ago. I was thinking of getting a LnL AP, but if their are issues with the priming system I'd like to hear about it. Also, I'm using Lee Carbide dies with the FCD in .45, I think I read somewhere that the FCD has issues when used with the LnL

Look at the top of the primer guide bar. Mine is an older one, but has an adjustment slot that the upper nut rides in. Move it back. You can also adjust the bar from the bottom, but you need to remove the press from the bench to do so.

Scott5,

Your problem is the cam bar (The crooked bar the black wheel rides on.) for your primer mechanism is slightly out of adjustment and likely needs to be raised a bit. I recently described how to adjust the entire primer setup in a post to Master Blaster helping him. Do a search of my posts and you'll find out a detailed description of the process.

It's aggravating to do, but once done, it's done for good, just make sure you use some blue loctite on the nut below the press. With the primer feed system adjusted properly, things will run smoothly.

If you have any questions, Hornady's tech. support is real good.

Regards,

Dave
