New Hornady LNL AP cams right over

Yes, that is correct. It just falls, regardless of having/not having a die in the press, regardless of having/not having a shell in the holder. The press can be totally bare and the arm will free fall.

Thanks
I can't see how the LNL progressive press handle could fall from the up rite position. Too much weight of the ram and mechanical advantage against it falling, even if you pull it down some and let go, it goes up, not down.

I must be missing something.

Without the presence of grease on the ram, it will free fall once started.

Easy fix. Run the ram up, then add grease till you feel resistance. Operate the ram a few time then remove the grease gun. Once it drys again it will free fall, ~2-3000 rounds.

My handle won't fall down until it is nearly all the way down and the ram is almost all the way up. Until then the weight of the ram makes its self fall back down, pushing the handle back up.

I must still be missing something.

I tried to replicate this on my LNL and I can't figure out what is happening either. There isn't enough mass or leverage for the handle to fall and rise the ram.

Maybe a short video would help us figure this out

Frank,
The sizing die should be touching the cut out part of the shell plate but not pushing on it.
The sizing die should have a ring in the bottom of it that resizes the case. If this ring is missing there will be no resistance on the press handle at all.

You should feel the case going into the die and coming back out of the die and the press handle should not fall at all when the case is in the die unless it has already been resized once or you have .380 cases mixed in with your 9mm cases. .380 cases are straight cased, not tapered and they will fall right into a 9mm die and right back out again with no resistance.

If the resizing ring is still in your die and when the shell plate is clear up, the die is actually just touching the lower level of the shell plate, it is set up correctly and with 9mm cases in the shell plate you should feel them being resized.

I have greased my press before and if I put to much pressure on the grease gun it will almost feel like it is binding up the press, it makes it stiff. If I spray lubricant on the ram itself, it gets really easy to operate.

Let me know if any of this helps, I'm confused also as to what your saying.

Good luck

I have a 1981 RCBS RS, no number, it doesn't cam over at all. Not all presses "cam over".

And you want to tread lightly if your using a carbide handgun die, other wise you risk breaking the carbide resizing ring. I adjust the die so it just barely kisses the die, not like I would with a FL bottle neck die, in which hard contact is often necessary to get shoulder bump.
