Stopped by my favorite LGS as they were unpacking a shipment of police confiscations today. Included in this batch was a nice old Browning A5, Winchester 1100, several other long guns, but a lever action rifle with the Marlin bulls eye inlay caught my eye. Turned out to be 44 mag with a JM stamp. Attached is a Japanese made Weaver CV9 scope. They had not yet priced it so I asked, "how much for this one?" The blueing and metal is perfect. The young kid says "let me see, looks like some dings in the wood from the police evidence locker room how about $460?" I looked and counted 4 small dings with no loss of finish and pulled out my credit card. The other guy behind the counter says, "you priced it too low" and walked away.

the '11xxxxxx' serial number puts this one born on 1989.

Yay me!

I got one new in the late 70's. No scope just a Williams peep site. Wish I still had it. Nice rifle, nice score.

Good deals are in the eyes of the beholder It's great when you get a good deal on a gun that you wanted. I never really go into a gun store any more with intention of buying a gun .

two of my favorite marlin rifles, a 1973 in 45-70, 95 and a 1973 in 44 mag, 94. i have killed deer with both of them. eastbank.

I have two Marlin's as well, a 1894 in 45 Colt (2017 Build), and a 1895G (with the ported barrel) in 45-70 that I purchased in 2003 when I first got back from the war in Iraq. The 45-70 is a dear killing machine. The 1894 has only terminated a bunch of paper. The 1895G has a shotgun scope mounted. Both have had the cross bolt safety removed and replaced with a saddle ring. The 1895G has had the lever screw replaced with a thumb screw. Makes for easy bolt removal.

Excellent find, I hope you enjoy your latest addition to your collection.

Congrats on the fine acquisition & great deal, au_prospector!

At the 1988 Medina, OH Gunshow I found the gently-used 1983-mfr Marlin .44 1894s that I was seeking. I added a Williams 5D rear aperture and it was close to perfect ... for me. :)

This was my primary walkabout rifle for 10-15 years (I was a bit of a coureur de bois). It is very accurate with 240gr "whitebox" & American Eagle ammo and was deadly for critters within ~100m (I never had an occasion for anything more distant ... iron sight + aging eyes, dontchaknow ;)).

In Summer '16, on Gunbroker, I stumbled across a LN 1983-mfr Marlin .44 1894s (apparently it was a gift that this guy never used and he was disposing of his firearms collection) ... so now I have a 2nd. The SNs are 20k apart.

Enjoy!
