Hey everyone, I recently purchased a Weatherby Vanguard Sub MOA in .270 win and want to have it as a hunting rifle, some flexible enought for woodchucks right on up to deer and elk if I ever get out west.

What I'm torn on is scope, rings, base and all that, now I have good experiences with Badger Ordnance so I'm inclined to go with their rings and base. but for the scope I'm not sure, I don't need something like a nightforce or USA optics, I'm thinking the Leupold VX-III in 4.5-14 would probably be a nice choice, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have some good scopes for me to check out? something in that price range of about $600 and also type of retical, my only experience is with mil dots.

I've been a Leupold fan for years and think it is a great choice. Another scope I have heard a lot of good things about is the Zeiss Conquest. At about $450 many swear it has better optics than the Leupold. I recently found a lightly used one at a bargain price and have mounted it on one of my rifles. Until I hunt with it for a season I'm not going to say it is better than the Leupolds i've been using, but after a couple of range trips I do like it. I would check them out.

I agree with all the above, plus you can throw in a supersniper scope, or a Burris with ballisticplex reticle, will be made for your 270. The tough problem here is not the scope so much, but how big is it, how heavy, getting the right mounts so that the scope isn't to high up over the bbl, that kinda thing. i would guess medium rings, with a 40 or 42 mm obj. would be okay, and I also like leupold rings/mounts. It would be double tough to beat an all leupold setup, or leupy rings/mounts with a nice burris scope.
