New Jersey Begins its Assault on the Second Amendment

Jeez, why not just ban guns altogether and call it a day?

They've created such a legislative monstrosity out there, any semblance of the 2nd amendment is all but gone anyway.

That's a horrifying read.

Do you guys have any ongoing litigation in NJ that's challenging any of the existing bans?

"All our other guns laws don't work, lets pass more!"

A friend of mine lives in NJ. He is working on getting his purchasing license, backlog time is 9 MONTHS. All he wants to start off his collection is a semi-auto M14. Some sort of weird love obsession with that one. Keep trying to persuade him to move so he can enjoy firearms like the rest of America.

What level? If it's NIJ Level IV they're considering, that stops pretty much anything short of .50 BMG or certain monolithic solids in powerful dangerous game calibers. If it's Level I, kiss your 9mm and .22 magnum goodbye.
They'll probably go with "wool sweater" or "high body-mass index" as the armor criteria :D

I guess that rules out everything but 30 Carbine :)D :D :D ;))

backlog time is 9 MONTHS
What was that old saying; "A right delayed is a right denied?" :scrutiny:

“Generalized fears for personal safety are inadequate, and a need to protect property alone does not suffice [to justify issuing a pistol permit].”
Ladysmith-Black-Mombazo! That's seriously messed up--I can't believe that's considered a rational court decision. Literally stating "we know what's for your own good better than you do" all the while crime continues unabated. I'd get out of there while they still allow you to!

The quote above is in reference to a carry permit (which is impossible to get) and not a pistol permit (which is possible to get).

In short, in NJ you need a permission slip from the chief of police in your town to buy (but not possess) a handgun. The form is also a "voluntary form of register" for said handgun. You may buy one handgun a month. The permits are good for 90 days. They are taking a long time right now. I just got two and it took almost 90 days to get them.

Carry permits are very VERY rare unless you're a retired LEO or a judge or someone else above the law. A woman who is in fear for her life from a deranged ex cannot get a permit in NJ unless there's already a police report on file that he tried to hurt her. "Justifiable need" and all that.

And it's only getting worse. There are bills on the floor that are pushing for things like home inspections and other nonsense. Nonsense that is likely to become reality here in the US.

And to all who say "just move", I submit to you that what flies here is destined for your future as well. This is the front line. Help us fight or don't be surprised when these laws show up in your state.
