Did Condor and Bark River not have a good original to copy or did they just decide to deviate from the original?

Becker's Kephart looks more like the picture in the Colclesser Brothers advertisement than the Condor or the Bark River.

I don't think the Utility Tool Knives Kephart Classic Wilderness Knife is even close.

There were no originals outside the museum to be used by the other manufacturers (and the museum didn't let people handle the minty one). To date, KaBar and 3 custom makers are the only knife makers that have handled an actual near mint Kephart (and that part time smith/full time LEO is the only one that's made a near perfect replica in detail)...that I've seen. I've handled Ethan's Kephart as has Mark Zelasky (look for an article soon from him) and the Beckerheads at the Gathering.

That looks an awful lot like the BK-16, at least the blade profile and length. Gotta think the BK 16 designer was inspired by that knife. It looks interesting, but I'd want to see one in person and hold it before buying one.

The BK16 was designed by Ethan Becker and he's attributed the 16 design inspiration to a Puma he had in his youth. He incorporated his design ideas and some of the Puma. The 16 may have also been influenced by some of the pictures of the Kephart since Becker is a huge fan of Kephart's books and thoughts on the outdoors. Becker didn't acquire his original Kephart until after the 16 was out (I should know since I was there at the time).
