Hey All,
This leather is kind of lame, compared to most leather that I have seen here on this subforum.....but...

At this time, I am not in a hurry to spend money for nice leather, as I am not a cowboy action shooter, and so the rig will only be worn on occasional range visits.

This is the cheapo leather from Cabelas, I think Triple K is the maker?
It fits my 5.5" Cimarron 1858 perfectly, and the belt is soft and works perfectly.

The holster and belt are super oiled from the factory, to the point of needing to be wiped down on occasion! But, the oil does add some suppleness to the leather.

No fancy stitching, no stamping, no rolled edges, but for my needs, this rig will serve it's purpose. I think I paid less than 100 dollars WITH shipping!

So, if you've wondered about cheapo Cabelas leather....go ahead, take a chance!

I used the same belt and Hickock holsters for SASS until I finally made my own holsters and belt. There's is nothing wrong with them, they're just won't hold up to the hard use of SASS for the long haul. I'm not an every week-end shooter though, I just shoot a couple of matches a year, if I'm lucky. Like you say, for casual purposes they work just fine.

A timeless and very functional looks of good quality leather. Makes for a good looking rig. The holster can be worn and removed without removing the belt.

Those are fine. I have had several over the years and most are still in service. If you want to darken the reddish color a bit, use some Neatsfoot oil on it. It may wind up matching your grips. NO GUARANTEE THOUGH. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I have 3 of those Triple-K holsters they are well made. functional rigs that look like they'll last many years! They're sorta molded to the revolvers they' re made for.with a bit of oil and some hard rubbing, you can shape them very well ti fit an individual revolver,
My only complaint is the snaps. They just didn't use large snap buttons back in the "Day" and the snaps look really out of place. No doubt hhough that they hold the rigs together well!
Price wise (Cabelas) you can't go very wrong with a triple K

Yer gonna hafta knock the new off'n that rig, son, gun and leather both. No point lookin' like an eastern dude on the range!

Oops! Dang! Yer in Vermont.

Hey man!
I lived in Ozark, MO for a year (back in 89/90) and loved it......but that ain't exactly west either!
Cut me some slack man, everthing starts out new!

Go real easy on the oil, no more than a light coat and no more than once every year or two. Over-oiling is leather's biggest enemy. The cells within the leather absorb more than they can hold, they burst and your leather is soft forever.

Missouri...home of the pony express, the James Gang, Missouri bushwhackers, the Baldknobbers, birthplace of Kit Carson and Cole Younger and Josie Wales, starting point for the Corps of Discovery, the Jefferson Memorial, Wild Bill Hickock's street duel with Davis Tutt, where the Hawken brothers made their rifles, etc, ...folks east of the Mississippi considered Missouri the "West" once upon a time.

...Just funning you though. That's a beautiful outfit and I hope you aren't shy about getting it dirty.

Thanks for your service, by the way.

(I'm not a Missouri native either; a Colorado boy by birth and raising.)

I'm just messing around as well!
The MO bushwackers, with Bloody Bill Anderson & Quantrill, and all the low-down-and-dirty guerilla tactics they employed.....are my favorite guerrillas in all history!

The James boys, Pony Express....not to mention the most beautiful rivers and mountains in the world (Ozarks rule!)

I got my commercial helicopter license from a school in Ozark, Mo, and was fortunate to spend an entire year buzzing the hills and valleys of southern MO.

Maybe someday I'll get back there!

I think it's nice, and you can't beat that price for a leather rig like that. Looks good !
