maybe some day the CMP will sell newer "obsolete" military arms like old M14s and M16A1s ...

This has been asked on the CMP forum. The answer has always been "never". I recall that the problem is that those are full auto weapons and if even made to only function semi-auto, the ATF would not allow it as something that is full auto is always full auto.

oh yes! wouldn't want the fact that they 40 years old get in the way of the idea that they're EVIL MACHINE GUNS!!

I just handled a new M1 Garand this last week in hunting camp. I don't know if I can come up with the info. on were it's available as it belongs to a retired Fireman from Denver. I only see him in camp during hunting season. When he told me he had a new Garand built for him I figured it was a new Springfield, but no,it is a rifle assembled with all new parts, from accumulated stock, built by a retired armoror back east somewhere. I am hoping to hear from him in the near future as we talked about shooting at Whittington Center this winter. Can't guarantee anything, but if I get more info. I'll post it.
