I am just too excited not to tell everyone. I placed a bid on a Marlin 1895M in .450 Marlin on auction arms a few days ago brand new in box for $425 shipped, and won. It shipped today, and i can't wait to pick it up. After firing my cousins 44mag marlin i just had to get one and found this. Will post pics when it arrives.

So, does anyone else have one, any comments on accuracy, or links to find some load data? I was hoping to find some loads that would either use red dot, or h110 (those are the two I have right now), but can't find a whole lot for 450m, and nothing in this caliber that uses those powders.

I can find a bunch of 45/70 loads (still none in red dot or h110) that I would assume would be safe in the 450marlin case, but didn't know for sure, the 450 marlin has a little less case capacity than the 45/70 which would cause higher pressures. I also thought it was supposed to be more powerful, but what little I have found is in the same realm as the 45/70. Any help would be appreciated.

A friend of mine from Alaska gave me one as a gift. It was one of the first guns that came out in 450 cal. that year. It has the 16" ported barrel light as heck and very accurate with iron sights. I took it deer hunting with me that year for the first time to try it out. Our campsite is next to a cliff side where a very distinct large white boulder of about 14 inches accross juts out. We always used that boulder to sight in or just to shoot at it with several rifles. Any way, I used my Marlin 450 and hit it with the second shot, since I missed the first, I knew how to make the corrections by then, plus it allowed me to put my shoulder back in place, kicks like two mules. I hit that boulder from 174 yds and it broke in half and fell down the cliff. That boulder had withstood years of target practice and the 450 marlin did what my 30-06 could not do. You will enjoy shooting it if you like pain,...just kidding, but it does take two or three weeks for the bruises to disappear from your shoulder. I bought Hornady's 350 gr bullet that has a muzzle velocity of 2100 fps and has a 35 inch drop at 300 yds but still delivers over 1100 pds of energy with a 150 yd zero. The conley precision cartridge has a 25 inch drop at that same distance. I have used to 250 gr bullet for elk which drops them on their tracks at 150 yds. I would not recommend a scope on this rifle.
