New to the site and new to Austin

I am in the military and currently stationed in Austin, Tx. We have only been here for a few months and just now starting to get dialed in to the area. I currently own one handgun, but am in the market for a M1917 or M1 Garand. If anyone knows of a business or person selling these types of weapons, please feel free to send them my way. Thanks a lot and I will be reading this forum regularly.

Jeff

Hello from New Hampshire! I've been lurking and learning a lot here while I research my first handgun purchase. Currently waffling between a Sig 226 or 229 and an XDm-40.

Hello from Oklahoma

I love to shoot. I like long range rifles and suppressed weapons. I did 2 tours in Iraq. I am currently working in the commercial heating and air business and attending drafting and design classes at ITT-Tech inTtulsa,OK.

Hi all, I've been shooting handguns for about 7 years, (started at age 56), and now I want to start to learn more about long guns. This forum seems to be a good place to start. I've seen favorable reports about THR on another forum, so, I decided to check you out.

long time lurker but finally decided to sign up. been an enthusiast off and on but really got into shooting about 6 months ago and do a lot of pistol competitions like USPSA and IDPA.

just got into AR15s too and just built my first one over the holidays

I've been checking out this forum for a few weeks and I decided to become a member because everyone here seems to try to keep things on topic. It also seems that the "you're a retard" rhetoric is not THAT big of an issue here which is refreshing.

I have been shooting for about 20 years now and I really enjoy shooting the breeze with people who know that you cannot shoot .308 ammo out of a 7.62X39. :)

My newest love is the Rock River mid-length HB I bought last year and I am in the process of outfitting it with all of the adornments. I hope she doesn't get mad when I buy the the next gun!

Anyway, glad to be here. See ya around.

Hello from Pennsylvania. I've been a daily CCW for about 15 years and for the past 5 years usually go with a Colt Pony (.380) in a pocket holster for ease of carry. Previously I carried my Glock 26 (9mm) IWB but it was too uncomfortable. Recently got a BlackHawk retention holster for the Glock which I find more comfortable and tend to now carry more often when I'm in less desirable areas.

Sometimes keep my SW640CT w/laser (.38+P) in a lockbox in the trunk as a last resort backup when I can't carry on my person for some reason. The rest of the collection includes a Walther P22 w/laser, a Beretta Tomcat (.32) and a Para Warthog (.45) are in the safe with the long guns and a Springfield XD40 Sub w/light/laser sits in the Gunvault next to the bed.

I tend to buy the subcompacts for their ease of carry and lack of bulkiness. Because I own so many different calibers and actions I only carry in Condition 3 so everyone is rack and repel (except the wheel gun of course). I know many say Condition 1 is the way to go but with the variety of guns I carry I'd rather not depend on safeties, if there are any and feel as long as I am aware of my surroundings I won't be drawing on anyone overtly.

I tend to approach the situations that if my or my family's lives/health are not in danger, the BG can take what he wants, especially in a public situation (eg. the BG can have the banks money for all I care, I would probably follow & report but no need to draw). I've only had to display my sidearm once, a road rager forced my off the road and two guys were approaching my car. I exited, racked and diffused the situation. So again, no cowboying and as long as I stay aware of my surroundings, I should have time to rack and repel.

Interested in hearing others opinions on that...

new from nw ohio

found this site looking up gun blueing. i'm a long range shooter, and hunter. very into rem 40X's,ruger #1 and pre 64 win.

Hi everyone. A friend sent me here and this is definitely a great forum for firearm-related information. I own a S&W 686 6" Combat Magnum, Rossi 357 "4.5, and a Mossberg Persuader. Training and improving my skills are my main objectives. I belong to the IPDA and with speedloaders do pretty well against the auto owners. Maybe a second or two off their time, but fast enough to stay competitive. I'm new to shotguns and hope to learn about them here.

Hey guys/ladies... new to this forum and look forward to learning more about handguns for CCW and self defense ideas... Hope to hear from you all and be able to provide advice as well =)

Greetings from New Zealand. I found this site while researching a Savage 3B I picked up a while back (nice rifle, wonderfully functional), watched the threads for awhile then decided to chime in. I have 3 .22's and Savage .222/20 gauge but no hand guns which are very hard to own here. I live but dont work on a farm and spend my down time either fly fishing or walking the farm and watching/ stalking the rabbits/hares/turkeys/pheasants/ducks thereabouts. The odd sika deer passes through too, but I almost never see those. Factoid: In my 45 years I have never seen an armed LEO here.

Hello everyone. Been lurking for sometime and from the majority of the posts I see a wealth of knowledge, experience, tolerance and wisdom to be gleamed from old and current posts. NRA member and owner of several guns of all types, brands and sizes I'm glad to join this community.

Been a long time lurker

Big whats up from Houston.

Been a long time lurker. Found this site many years ago looking for load data.

Currently I primarily shoot pistol.

- Springfield Armory XD-40 (Carry)
- Glock 19 (Wife's)
- Taurus PT145 Pro (Carry Option 2)
- Oly Arms AR15 (Pimping the iron sights)
- British Enfield (Wife's childhood gun)
- H&K USC .45 (Sold)

I reload .40 and .45 on a Dillon 550 press. Will be adding 9mm to this soon. Will be cheaper for me to shoot at the range.

Would be great if i could find some local shooters that frequent Bayou Rifles ranges, primarily the Eldridge facility.

quit lurking recently

I am introducing myself to the forum. I am twenty five and a soldier, I have been in the United States Army since I was seventeen. I have been deployed three times, and to two different regions. I am a huge fan of knowing soviet manufactored weapons, it started with the simple fear of not having a working weapon, when I needed it over there. It has grown into an obessession. I have an open mind and have this urge to figure out things when I see them. Not an expert, but experienced.

Good by

I have really enjoyed this site, but I made a boo boo this morning which caused a good post to be locked. I'm sorry it was a good post but I put in some political things that I thought were pertenant. I was chastized right away and I removed my post, but it got locked anyway.
I feel the only honorable thing for me is to resign from THR.
Thank You ENCS(S/W, A/W, R/W) A.M. Jones USN Ret.

Hi All

Here goes, I am 47 yrs old. I live in Indiana. I like all kinds of shooting except shotguns, but I do own some. Deer hunting, fishing in Indiana. Two children 14 yr old boy, 10 yr old girl. Married 24 yrs. Never went to college, work in a plastics factory. Old fashioned outlook on everything. Dont want to sway people from their views but dont want to be swayed either.

If ya dont like the way I'm livin, just leave this long haired country boy alone!

I would like to request that I' be forgiven my transgretions and allowed to continue on THR. It is the best site I've ever visited and I look forward every morning to visit.
I'm afraid I suffer from PTSD and have a short fuse about political crap. I fully understand and knew that that kind of posts just cause continued escallation of hate and discontent and am sorry that I caused a good post to be locked.
I really need this meathod of excercising my gunsmithing and shooting abilities.
Please forgive
