Newbie in Virginia

Hi,

I'm obviously new to THR, and my interest is in target shooting. I have some competition experience in rimfire (Mossberg 22LR), and I'm looking to get started in F-T/R. I figure on progressing through the NRA's Marksmanship Qualification Program and then, if I'm good enough, start competing.

I have owned a few guns over the years but now not so much. I used to belong to a Gun Collector's organization and still go out to shoot a bit. Sold just about all of them as offspring aren't that interested in firearms. I am going to do a little hunting this year so have to brush up on some things and this is the perfect place to do that!

New to the forums. not to shooting and/or related activities.
STORM vet; Ret. LEO; Like loading and shooting (everything but SG..There I
stick to fact. stuff) ....If it goes BANG!... I'm happy.

Not much else. I mostly view from afar and take it all in.

WILL.

Fellow Americans
I am a new proud owner of an EAST GERMAN MAKAROV. K100 stamp.. But I am questioning the small letter "a" and 4 dots around it it's a 61. Any info
Thanks

Hey guys and gals! Bill here, long time shooter, fisherman, outdoorsman, woods bum. I enjoy most outdoor activities. Been a lurker on here for quite awhile and decided to register.

Just wanted to add, I had been a longtime member of GunBroker forums. But That forum has been more and more unwelcoming. If you are deemed a liberal or disagree with the 10 or so members that feel they control those forums, you are deemed a liberal, and a threat to the American way of life. They are just not welcoming or friendly anymore. It was time to leave.

Hello fellow gun nuts...and I say that as a compliment! I am for sure a gun nut. Grew up with firearms as my Dad and Mom along with my Uncles, Cousins, friends, etc. all owned and shot guns, served in the military, and I grew up in the country where I could step out into the woods and shoot. One of our favorite activities was going to the dump and shooting rats, cans, bottles, etc. Shot my first rabbit at the age of five with a single shot bolt action rifle. My favorite toys, Christmas presents, birthday presents...guns! Served in the USAF Security Forces and shot expert with the M16. Retired as a LEO with almost 37 years working in the government (USAF, NPS Ranger, and Special Agent with DOD and OPM.) I love to go to the range and shoot and I have a nice collection of...a little of everything! I'm not prejudice when it comes to guns...rifles, shotguns, pistols, all calibers and actions...I love it all! What got me to this forum was my research on the Marlin 39A, which I have been wanting for some time. Well, I just picked one up on GunBroker and it is SWEET! Nice scope and sling included. I have other interests, but firearms are at the top of the list. Have a great memorial day and God bless our VETS!

Greetings from rainy Oregon. If you look at the news you will see we are in the middle of a severe drought. Unfortunately someone forgot to tell mother nature and we have been getting rain for the past two weeks. It is great for the ranchers, but is really screwing with my range time.

New to the boards

Hi, my name is Paul, I am new to your boards. I stumbled upon it by a general inquiry into a Tec .22 (I will address questions in the proper area).

I an an avid collector or was till my collection just dissapeared. I am a navy vet, retired LEO and all around decent guy. I live on the space coast in Florida with my wife and American Bullie named Layla, who is 5 mos old. The dog not my wife to clarify. I work part time at a local pawn shop working primarily with firearms. I have a fair general knowledge but am humbled daily by those who are more knowledgeable. Nothing worse nor more transparent than an "I know it all". If I were, I wouldn't be visiting here. I am also on Survivors SKSBoards as I enjoy the Soviet ptoducts. They tend to be simple like me. I learn much there and hope to here as well.

Thanks, I look forward to learning and perhaps sharing.

Hello...

Hello to all. I'm Wayne & new here, but by no means new to the world of shooting blackpowder. I'm not as computer-literate as I'd like to be, so please bear with me. I'm here to learn, as well as help, whenever I may.
Most recently, I've been gleaning info re. 1861 Enfield "musketoons". I believe that to be a misnomer, but it's the most common way of identification. This is only the second .58 cal. black powder that I've had my mitts on since my induction to the field. The first being a Navy-Arms "1855 Buffalo-Hunter". I was told (albeit many years ago) that it was essentially a sporterized Zouve rifled-musket. If I knew then, what I know now, I'd still have it!!!
More recently, I stumbled across a heck of a deal on a SWEET 1861 Enfield. (I apologize, as I can't post pix right now) It IS a genuine Parker-Hale made rifle, only slightly (if ever) used for about half of what one would cost in its condition.
I'm going to stop here, until I get the hang of making posts. Thank you for your time and I hope to be able to contribute, as well as learn. God-Bless.

Just found your site. Looks like someone here might be able to help me out occasionally. I will attempt to reciprocate. I'm not an expert but I can provide feedback on some issues.

I am interested in high tech long guns and accessories for use in rugged outdoor environments (rain, sleet, snow, hot, humid, freezing, sand and mud) for night time hog hunting in Piney Woods of East Texas.

Specifically, I am currently looking for information related to a Springfield M1A National Match.

HI

Name is Rob Bear, just got into reloading love it , reload for the 300 win mag, 30-06, 308, 270, and 30-30 from Canada but living in the states have a question for you. can I use a berger 168 gr vld/hunting in a 30-30 if I load the shells in to chamber by hand rather then in the tube, and does any one have a recipe for that .

Hey Folks,
Long time lurker. Live in the third world country of S FL. Found your site a while back while researching a few toys I was contemplating. I like all types of guns but especially military surplus. I don't post a lot but occasionally will throw my .02 in.

Looks like I am about the same as all the other new guys. Been snatching info from the site for years now, never signed up, not sure why.

Anyhow, glad to be here. Hope I can learn a few things and maybe even help at times.

Thanks

Hello from Michigan !!

I'm a single dad with 4 sons (20, 17, 14, 11)and I'm self employed ....

I've always taught my boys that they need to ask themselves...

"Would I be ok if someone treated me the way I'm treating them?"

and if they can answer "YES"

then they will be treating others well, and I believe they will always be alright if they also follow the basic 2 rules of our household that pretty much sums everything up:

1. Always tell the truth no matter what ....

2. Take responsibility for your actions whether they are good, or bad.

Trying to not get on a soap box BUT there are WAY to many people that expect others to fix their problems ... I hope and pray my sons make me proud and that I've done a good job teaching them some core values.

All the rest is life ....

I load 9 mm, .40, .45 ACP and .45 LC, 44 Mag, .357 Sig, and .460 S&W for pistols ...
22 Hornet, .223/5.56, 30-30, 30.06, .32 Win Special, .308, .300 Win Mag, 7 MM Mag, 7.62x54R, and 45/70 and starting to look at 35 Whelan.

Hope to pass on info, and learn things as well!

Greetings from Cadiz, Spain.
Joined in this nice site on February 17, 2012 and I've been reading this site for several years, but this is my first post to say 'Hello' to my new friends here. :)

Name's Ian, live in the U.S. started making my own weapons and hunting about age 10, started with Neolithic era stone implements and gradually progressed through the human advancement of technology until I arrived at building firearms a couple of years ago. My first attempts were a little embarrassing, I'll get into that later... Anyway, my search for some knowledgeable people to bounce ideas off of led me here... So far the most advanced piece I've managed to successfully make is a .44 revolver, Colt pattern 1860 Army. I'll test that statement when I fire it.

How ya'll doing? :) I'm a Navy guy out on the west coast, been trying to break into High Power service rifle competition for awhile now, best score on the presidents hundred course of fire is a whopping 205 so have a long way to go on that. I collect unusual firearms and I have a sweet tooth for Class 3 stuff every now in then when I can afford it.
