Hello all.

I'm an Army Vet and retired LEO. I've been a gun owner and shooter for over 30 years. Handguns have held the lion's share of my attention, but find rifles and shotguns have recently begun to make inroads. I have enjoyed reading the content here and decided to join in.

Just joined. Found this forum while looking for information. This one looks like it is very good. I am a 71 year old retired schoolteacher from Kentucky and have played with guns since I was very young. I collect and shoot. NRA Life Member and Instructor.

Hello to all; I've been gleaning knowledge from THR for many years...no excuse for lack of participation.
I will jump right in with questions- respectively (acording to my upbringing).

Welcome to everyone!

Please take the time to read the forum rules on civility (summarized as we can disagree without being disagreeable) and staying within the scope of the forum (firearms related topics only).

There are a remarkable number of remarkably knowledgeable members (and the typical few who think they are ;-) ) who can answer almost any question in depth.

Please keep in mind that you've not been asked to pay for access and that the moderators and staff are volunteers so help us all keep things on the high road.

Hello to everyone,

Been a member for a while but haven't been on the forums for quite some time. I've been shooting for quite some time. It was a hobby I was always interested in from the time I was a young boy. That interest just grew, especially after I enlisted in the Army. Since then I've started collecting older Military firearms along with those that I carry on a daily basis. I've also been reloading for quite a few years.

Hello all,
I've been a member since March but just found this particular page. I have been shooting since I was 10 with my dad and grandpa. I have been reloading for about 2 and a half years, mainly .223 Rem and .30-06, but lately I have gotten into reloading for 9mm. I look forward to learning more about shooting and reloading through this site.

Greetings.
I am looking for a gun board that isn't full of novices, but also isn't full of trolls. Hope this is it; from post I've read I suspect it is.
I like revolvers, single shot rifles, double barrel shotguns.
Currently carry a S&W m12, nickel, 2"bbl, sq butt; beautiful gun.

Just found out that I have been a member since 2012 and have made 16 post before this one! All the same, I guess; good to be back!

Howdy,
I am new but now am believing that I may have signed up for the wrong forum.
Somewhere I was led here to get information about Daisy BB guns but I see this is for other
than that.
I strongly support the 2nd Amendment and then all the others after that. ALL of the others.

If anyone can help me on repairing a Daisy BB gun email me, otherwise, I am sorry to bother
you.

Hello from Montana.
I'm a fourth generation native Montanan on my Mom's side, my Dad's side of the family has been in Montana for much longer.
Been in the Army. Spent a few years in the ARNG after I got out, was thinking about trying out the Navy (wanted to travel) but was run over by a car and crippled up, so Guard gave me a medical discharge and Navy plans went away (this was all many years ago).
Spent the majority of my civilian working life as a cook, though I've also been a warehouse supervisor, a bartender, a fiber optics lineman, a restaurant manager, and a few other things.
I joined this board as I wanted to learn a few things about black powder shooting as I'm fairly new to it (I'm shooting a Hawkin percussion rifle, and a Uberti 1851 Colt Navy).
I cast my own round ball.
I enjoy target shooting (mostly pistol, but some rifle).
I used to shoot skeet but gave it up a few years back as I no longer live by a trap shooting range and don't enjoy eating wild game birds. - I also sold most of my shotguns, so it's unlikely I'll be getting back into it.
I cast bullets and reload.
I currently live off grid in the Bitteroot Mountains.
I'm making my own range on my property (though my work on it is currently being held up by other more pressing things I need to do).
I overshare.

Been intrested in firearms about 40 years or so. Been carrying one for a living in one form or another for 30 years. Started as Army Infantry still ongoing. Interest in ARs, B.P. handguns, reloading... about anything if it shoots. Other interest Jeeps, SCUBA diving, camping, fishing and what not.

Hi again, gents. Not that I'm new here but I've been quite a while without posting here. Now I'm back and eager to catch up. I've had very good reads and a lot of fun here.

Best!.

I've been lurking here quite awhile, so I might as well introduce myself.

I'm Dave, from North Carolina.. i enjoy shooting mostly pistols but also some rifle and have recently gotten into reloading the pistol calibers.

Nice forum you have here. I've spent many hours learning here.

Although I've only really been shooting for a year or so, I've been reading posts on this site for a few years, and I finally decided to make an account.

I have a strong love for manual-action guns (revolvers, bolt-actions, basically anything not semi-auto). I am the proud owner of a Ruger GP100 Match Champion, Ruger Blackhawk Convertible (357/9mm), and Remington 700.

I mostly like handguns. My Rugers see the most range time by far, and they always put a smile on my face.

Hello, im 36 and im from TN. Im into most any type gun but i hands down love pretty wood/blue bolt guns the most. I like classics and enjoy lever actions and revolvers as well and have since i was young. The last few years ive kinda got into black guns a bit so now i enjoy all diff aspects of all types of firearm.

I look foward to some fun and informative conversations in the future.

Good evening,
Based in Europe, and shoot mainly rifle for sport and food. Fond of tactical rifles and my Ruger No 1 in 405 Winchester.
Still shoot Pistol a bit at work, mainly Glock and Sig. came across the site by chance so thought I would join!

Some might consider this introduction excessive, but I am bringing in a lot of information and I don't want any of it to get lost.

I have been reading this site since approximately 2007. Rather than ask a lot of stupid questions and get into fights with my elders, I read deep into the archives, on this and many other sites. I took the internet about as far as it could go at the time, then I went into hardcopy research for 5 years. I read 40 Years of Handloader on CD-ROM, books by Elmer Keith, Phil Sharpe, George Nonte, Bill Wilson, Mike Venturino, and so on. I dug deep into digitized periodicals, so far back that a "Winchester rifle" only had one chambering.

In about 2012 I started reading a lot of gun magazine articles that were badly written and obviously wrong. I got it into my head to correct the record somehow. For the next 4 years I conducted an independent battery of gel tests in Perma-Gel. I started with at least 18 different .45 ACP loads, mostly factory ammo because you couldn't get bullets or cool powders at that time. I also tested a few rifle calibers and some shotgun loads.

I am a disciple of the great pragmatist philosopher, Clark. Clark had a lot of electrical engineering knowledge, so he was on the other end of the spectrum from the know-nothing hand-wringers. He said something like, the best way to prove a circuit can run at 100 watts is to build it so it can take 300 watts at continuous duty. Somebody had a question about how strong a Tokarev pistol was. Clark converted one to .38 Super, and ran a handload through it that was a .357 Magnum double charge under a 158 XTP, at about 60,000 CUP.

With that said, I was unsatisfied with the .45 ACP results. The few loads that had good "bounce" had very shallow penetration, and promising loads like the Hornady 220+P had recoil that was, frankly, excessive for the 1911 platform. About that time I read a number of un-researched articles on the .38 Super, written by the usual cabal of hand-wringing navel-gazing staff writers. These articles were in conflict with men like Ken Waters, men that knew their facts because they were there when these things happened.

In the Clark spirit, I cut a .38 Super barrel back so it would fit a .45 frame, which when fired would leave a section of the case wall unsupported. This was my redneck pressure test barrel. The test battery ran to 1400 rounds of handloads over 2 1/2 years, with zero blowouts. Loosely, the results of the tests were these:

* The only 9mm loads worth bothering with, are boutique +P+ loads like the Federal 9BPLE (115 gr at 1300 fps), which really should be shot out of a big steel-frame gun.

* Factory .38 Super ammo is not "loaded down," they are just being cheapskates by using powders like Bullseye and HP-38. The factories think nobody cares about this caliber, and that's a shame. I'm pretty sure they could run a 125 grain bullet up to 1400+ fps while staying under the SAAMI limits (I did). That was about what a post-SAAMI .357 Magnum load was doing out of a duty gun when Marshall and Sanow gave it a 96% one-shot-stop rating.

* Needless to say, any of this stuff can be done with an inexpensive, bone-stock, non-ramped gun.

As I write this, Communism is rampant in this country. Obama and his cabinet were products of Soviet subversion, as is the "growth area" of the current and near-future Democrat apparatus. Nobody wanted to talk about that when it mattered, least of all John "Obama my good friend and collegue" Boehner.

Earlier today a Communist by the name of James Hodgkinson attempted to assassinate 20 or so Republican House members on a baseball field. House whip Steve Scalise was shot near the femoral artery with what I'm assuming was a Green Tip, spitting fragments all over and making for a very difficult surgery. The last I heard, they are still trying to control the bleeding and chase hidden arterial tears.

About 3 months ago, I got this crazy idea that I should go back to school, switch to Pre-Med, and go into "blood and guts" ER surgery. Before, it seemed like a harsh, expensive job with no upside, saving the lives of too many career criminals.

But somebody respectable needs to reconcile Marshall and Sanow with Fackler. In other words, a handgun bullet should be designed to expand, fragment, and penetrate deep. In other words, we are the first responders, the era of pop guns is over.

Too little has been done in the last 30 years of load development, thanks to the nay-sayers. We should be advancing constantly like Patton said, "I don't want to get any messages saying that we are holding our position. We're not holding anything, we'll let the Hun do that. We are advancing constantly, and we're not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy. We're going to hold onto him by the nose, and we're going to kick him in the ass. We're going to kick the hell out of him all the time, and we're going to go through him like crap through a goose."

I bet the publication of "Street Stoppers" dropped crime by 10% in this country, because it killed the 10% of criminals that otherwise would have survived. I aim to duplicate or better these results, by going over thousands of autopsies linked to police records and modern witnesses.

It'll take about 15 years to get any results out of that project. In the meantime, I think I'm finally qualified to say a few things on THR without embarassing myself. Time to melt the snowflakes!

Hello, new from Texas, I like just about every kind of gun but am currently in what I call my revolver stage. I discovered this forum searching on revolver question & decided it had some quality content & members, so here I am.

Greetings to all users THR from nort east of Italy, near Torino, in a small village.
Good wine, good cheeses and so many green hills where does the "Fassone", the famous Piemontese meat. . . . . and, of course, a abandoned quarry where to go to practice on saturday and sunday.

My name is Arturo, I'm "just" 49, married, 3 kids.

This forum is wonderful. I've been checking this forum out for awhile and it seem everyone is so friendly. One I have noticed is the amount and the quality of information, is formidable. Thanks very much.

I obviously speak Italian, I speak and write very well French, I speak and write very bad in English, sorry.
My compliment to the THR staff and user.

Hi!
This thread is a place for new THR members to introduce themselves.

Tell us a little about who you are and what kind of gun stuff you're interested in!
I live in Connecticut which is becoming a problem for any gun owner. There are no words that can defend anything like Sandy Hook. Met a parent of a surviving child the other day. With that said I have been a gun owner for 40 years Currently have taken up mid long range. 300 to 500 yrds . Hitting 6 inch armor with a 22 250 all day. Its so much fun. Also glocks Kimber mauser 7 and 8 mm 12gauge 270 3030. Recently lost the place we used to go. Looking for some info on anywhere to go. Also just like talking about guns Thanx

My name is Jason and I'm fascinated by 19th Century history. I'm currently building a time machine to go back in time to around 1840 or so. At present my time machine is just a few wires hanging out of a ball of aluminum foil but I'm working hard to complete it before I die (wink). I've always been interested in the Civil War and recently bought a Pietta made Colt Army Model 1860 and I'm hooked! This site has been a HUGE resource for information and I'm very grateful for it. In the future I plan to purchase an 1858 Remington New Army, 1851 Colt Navy, an 1847 Colt Walker and hopefully more. I have no interest in modern metallic cartridge weapons unless an 1873 Colt SAA with a 7.5" barrel is considered a modern weapon. Thanks again everybody for your "2 cents" worth of information. Best regards!!!!

Another new old guy. Raised shooting, hunting and fishing. Learned to reload when I was 11 or 12. I collect pre '98 to modern firearms. Because I can.

Popped in to try and make sure that folks know that Mauser Central is back on line too. We're a dot net now. Feel free to drop in and visit any time.

Steve

Welcome, most of the native English speakers on the forum speak and write "very bad in English" as well if you asked an English teacher. ;)

Good to have you here, I haven't made to Italy but would like to visit some day.

Hi from Texas.
