Hi

The folks over at Cast Boolits spoke highly of y'all, and set up a link
Rather than lurk, I'll knock nicely, and promise not to post.
I live in North Pole Alaska at the end of 30 miles of twisted pair phone line.
For a wonder, it works. Mostly.

Great site! This does seem indeed to be The High Road.

Hello.

Hello there! I'm new here, and I am glad to join. I am a teen who loves shooting. I shot once at camp, and have loved it ever since. It is something I'm actually good at (And I'm not good at much), and I would love to do more of it. I joined mainly to ask questions. Other than my grandpa, no one in my family has owned guns, but I'd like to change that. (My grandpa had a .410 bore, but he decided pawn it for a camera in the 1960's.) While I have a liberal thinking mother, she taught me to think open-minded and for myself... (I think it backfired on her a bit) Well, I am glad to join and always would like to learn more.

Hi
Just starting my second childhood. The first was spent with a pea rifle knocking off bunnies. Now struggle with a Howa .270 which shoots just fine. I live on a couple of hundred acres NSW Australia and am looking forward to making a few more tools and seeing how accurate I can get a couple of rifles to perform.
Better a full bottle in front of me etc.

Hello

Hi all. Im in my early 20's. I have a 2 year old son who is my everything. My Father (the survivalist) got me into guns at a young age, and i have been hooked ever since. Im currently building my first AR15, and loving evry second of it... including the frustrating spring pops that tend to happen to me :) . I joined the forum in hopes of learning everything i can from like minded people.

Hi huys, my names Matt.
I live in Idaho(thank god) and I'm studying Mechanical Engineering, getting my bachelors done.
I'm hoping to someday be a gunsmith professional, as of now though it's just a hobby.
Here's a video of my 341 sportmaster I clean up, not finished but I can't blue it yet(no money)

I've traveled the entire west coast, well... maybe not alaska, lol. Figured I'll travel the rest of the states later in life, as I don't have the money to be traveling a whole lot anymore.
I like long strolls on the beach under moonlight and antique firearms. :D
Been lurking for awhile thought I'd join up and introduce myself.
Have a great day guys!

Newbie

Hey all, I am new to THR but have been a "lurker" on occasion. Interests lie in anything that sends a projectile down range. I started getting little more serious in shooting when I won a Les Baer Custom Improved Police Special AR-15. I own a myriad of firearms and favor the Sig brand for handguns. I recently purchased a Spanish FR-8 to shoot at the club in the foreign military shoots. Hope I get the chance to contribute something to the discussions.
Retired navy Chief from upstate NY now living in MD.

Texan living in the outlands

I am interested in shotguns and rifles primarily, pistols (to a limited degree). I own 2 rifles, 3 shotguns, 1 pistol, a recurved bow, and blow gun. I am very interested in the Survivalist Movement, as I believe we are in for a major collapse of society - world wide. Lord help us all, and I pray I am wrong.

However I am interested in shotguns, rifled barrels, and maximum range of saybolt rounds.

I am a young firearms enthusiast. I love firearms, hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and the outdoors in general. Ive grown up in the country and thus have been in the woods since I was a small child and never left. I admit, Im a pistol guy, but there will always be a place for rifles and shotguns with me.

Hello -

Currently a subject of Illinois. Once the kids are out of school, planning on hightailing it.

Have been a lifelong shotgunner. Was introduced to long rifles by a good friend with the intention of hunting pdogs and coyotes. Found that I really enjoyed bench-shooting, enjoy the math and physics.

Collection is growing.

Wife now is approving of handguns - so they are being added to the collection.

Have lurked here for a VERY long time and appreciate the overall tone and attitude.

many like it, but this gun is mine

I am a proud owner of a Glock 22(.40) and am enjoying its firepower to say the least. I have wanted a pistol since I was a kid and have finally purchased my first at age 30. I know you can never be too old to try new things and I know I'll shoot and be interested in guns from here on out. In fact, im already looking forward to the day when I can buy a rifle of some kind and probably a shotgun because, well shotguns kick-ass. I would like my next weapon to be one of the cool looking assault rifles I see at Cabellas and look tactical. Right now I'm trying to convince my wife that she needs to carry a small gun in her purse and that it would ease my mind as well, but I will have to ease into that one because I'm still not sure she's completely ok with my glock(even though she loves to hold and feel its power). Anyway, this is my introduction and I'm glad to be a THR member now as there is some very valuable information in these posts and chat area's and I feel a little less paranoid knowing that so many other red-blooded Americans feel the need to arm themselves.

Hello All,

I've enjoyed outdoor activities all of my life. I am fortunate to live in the Upstate of SC where there is plenty of opportunity to hunt, fish, camp, hike and shoot. I've recently started shooting more for a hobby and plan to reload to keep ammunition cost down. I look forward to reading the forum and receiving advice from the more experienced members.

Hello, Everyone! I'm Phil from Georgia. I have retired after 37 years in business, and I enjoy my retirement. I owe a few rifles, and handguns mainly for self-defence and occasional target practice. I have my carry permit, and always have a gun in my car (this is Atlanta area after all). My pride and joy is the M1 Carbine rifle that my dad got from the U.S. Armory in 1963 to use in his duties as a North Carolina Highway Patrolman. It's the gun that I grew up learning to shoot with. I just heard of your website today and joined immediately. I am looking forward to hearing and reading all that goes on here. Thanks, members, for all you do to support American freedom!!!

Hi guys.

I'm Cory. I am a 20 year old National Guard veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I was in country while the mission transitioned into Operation New Dawn. I have been in the military for 3 years, today actually. I am an MP. I really enjoy shooting and find myself striving to always do better at it.

I grew up around firearms. Being from a very rural area in upstate New York (Oh how I hate the city) I learned to shoot at an early age. I started with my fathers .22LR Marlin, and some other small guns. When I was pretty young I also loved shooting his .22LR Pheonix Arms pistol. My parents also had a .40 and a .45 but memory wont let me remember their specifics. I currently only own 2 firearms of my own. A .22LR semiautomatic Marlin and a Remington 1187 Premier. The latter has a target barrel and a cantilever barrel with a scope. They are well loved and see frequent use.
In the Army I have used more then a few weapons with more then a few odds and ends attached. While deployed I carried my M4, M9 and had a 240B as my crew serve. But I have also worked with the M16, MK19, M249, M203and more then a few less than lethal weapons.

Although NY state law says I can apply for my pistol permit while under the age of 21 because Im a veteran... That isnt the actual case. Apparently Schorie(sp?) county doesnt care. In fact, I was told if I wanted to apply I should speak with legal council. I cant wait to move back to Otsego county. After I turn 21 in June and apply I intend to buy 3 pistols. An M9 Military styled Beretta (Its what I truely learned the fundamentals on. and I have yet to qualify anything but expert with it,) a .22LR Pheonix (My fiance loves my Dads mouse gun and wants me to get one so she can learn to shoot better and more often. SCORE.) and a 1911. I have been eyeing Springfield Armory's X9109LP I think thats the number. Loaded Parkerized. BUT Im holding out on buying a 1911 until I get the chance to put some rounds down range. Probably check out a rental range after I get the permit. I would consider myself knowledgable about pistols... but there is always a wealth of information to learn from.

The reason I am joining is pretty simple. This is the best forum about firearms I have found. I have lurked here for along time around the hunting section, and more recently around the handgun section. Hopefully I can bring something to the table as far as information and experience, and hopefully I can gain some aswell.

... Wow. I just wrote a freakin book. Oh well. hahaha.

Stopping a 9mm

. .Hi I am new to this site. I am 65 a veteran and have allot of interest. This leads to allot of Questions. I like handguns but don't have enough time to visit the range as often as I would like. I still work. I have a question. How many sheets of 5/8 plywood would it take to stop a 9mm full metal jacketed bullet ? This is fired from a 4" barrel. This could be useful info to me later in a defencive way. .Any info would be appreciated

Hi all, newbie here. Been a lurker for a short while. I was in the firearms business business for 8 years and a competitive shooter for the same time. I got out of the industry and shooting for about 3 years and have now gotten back in.

New Member!

Hi, my name is Phil. I was raised up shooting rifles, pistols and and shotguns. My Dad was a police officer and trained me well to respect guns and love to shoot. I still have my J.C. Higgins .22 cal that I got when I was 16. That was 42 years ago. I stumbled upon this site earlier this week and joined immediately.

I live in Georgia and have had my carry permit for about 7 years. My prized possession is my dad's M1 carbine that he purchased from the U.S. Armory at Ft. Bragg, N.C. In 1963 as a backup weapon for his patrol car. I grew up shooting this rifle and still enjoy it. It looks new!

I appreciate all of the advice and information that I get from this site. And I am glad to be a member.

Hello from SE TN!
I am new to firearms. I grew up altogether afraid of them, actually. However, I was bitten by the bug when I inherited a 1920 Remington Model 11 12 gauge. Its shoots, but i think it needs some work for dependability and to use as a learning piece (Honestly, I'd like to get it set-up really sweet, but not affect it's current or future value). Most of my coworkers and friends have grown up around guns/hunting and they (guns/hunting) are always around or a topic of discussion. Hence... the bug has bitten and dug in. I'm excited to learn proper shooting techniques, and as a machinist, I'm stoked about learning how the guns work and how to make them perform to the best within their design. I also want to learn how to properly get my wife (she's super uncomfortable about this subject) and my son involved in shooting as time moves on (he's just a year old). Also, I just lost my 13yr old Chocolate Lab and that has prompted a desire to learn proper gun dog handling and fowl hunting so that my son and i can hunt and work a good dog together one day. I have a lot of questions! I will do my best to post them in the proper forums. So bear with me! This forum seems great and I look forward to all of your input and hope that my mistakes and questions help other beginners. So, I'll get to reading and researching!
Thanks!
