Hello,
I new member and I many questions but I thought it I should introduce myself first .
I like hand guns , my favorite is the S&W M&P 9mm Pro Series.

Greetings to everyone...

A friend told me about this website, and after reading it for the first time, I wasted no time in joining.

As one can see from my handle, I hail from the deep south - specifically, the great state of Georgia, where I was born more years ago than I like to count. I am presently stuck living in a blue state north of the Mason-Dixon line, but hope to head west or south again before too long.

Coming from my background, it would have been more remarkable to have been uninterested in firearms; all those clichés about rednecks and good old boys and things that go "bang" ended up being true in my case. My late father, a WWII veteran, taught me to shoot as a boy - I can still remember getting my first BB gun, my first pellet gun and finally my first real "adult" gun - a Browning 22 lever-action that I still own today.

My very first formal instruction in firearms came from the NRA and I still belong to that organization; I also belong to GOA as well. I view ownership of arms as a fundamental and unalienable human right.

Didn't end up being in the military. Wanted to be a pilot as a young guy, and tried joining the USN on that basis, but you had to have 20/20 vision in those days to be an aviator, and I was slightly near-sighted - so that didn't happen and I walked out the door of the recruiting office and got on with life. Much later on, I tried joining after the 9-11 attacks, but was 6-8 months over the age cutoff and couldn't get a waiver. Tried very hard to get in over the course of a couple of years, but no dice. I am especially surprised that I wasn't waived in because I am a trained medic - and at the time, the Marine Corps needed FMF corpsmen pretty badly - and the army needed medics, too. I didn't - and still don't - agree with recruiting policy on that score (and some others, too), but I don't write the rules.

When I failed to get in, I decided to throw myself a bone in the form of getting my blackbelt in the martial art of my choosing (which I have done) and also in learning to shoot as well as I could - which is a work in progress, but coming along nicely. I've already gone further than anyone expected - least of all me.

Far as interests and hobbies go, love history, the outdoors and hiking, and martial arts - in addition to target shooting, self-protection and hunting (one of these days, I hope). Own a variety of long guns, as well as a few collector's items - classic 20th century American military rifles, etc. - as well as several pistols and a shotgun or two. I am also an NRA-certified reloader and long-range rifleman. Spent a fair number of years in the late 1990s and early 2000s doing IPSC-style pistol training and events, but lately most of my time has been devoted to riflemanship and long guns. Been through CMP and Appleseed, too - and have also received a lot of instruction from ex-military and ex-LE types. In addition to enjoying sporting firearms use myself, one of my goals is to help pass along the American tradition of a free citizenry proficient in the use of arms - to those interested in learning it, and also to coming generations.

About the only downside to this hobby is that it can become a tail which wags the dog, and darned quickly. I am reminded of that old hot-rodder's (another of my expensive hobbies) saying, "The answer to the question 'How fast do you want to go' is 'How much money do you have?'" Well, guns and shooting sports aren't so different.... but I do enjoy very much being around fellow enthusiasts. It's been great...

Newbie

I am a retired firefighter (40 years) in a major city and have always been interested in guns and reloading. Have been shooting since I have been old enough to hold one up. Also I am the new owner of a CMP special Garand and am in love with it. Can't believe the accuracy with Greek surplus ammo with just iron sights. I also have several other guns and am getting back into reloading after due to current political climate. Hard to believe how much additional info is out there now. I find this site a gold mine for information for all guns, refinishing, and reloading. Cudo's to the originator and moderators of the site and for all the information that is here.

An old (66) Alabama boy.

Hello, my name is Andrew. I'm from small town in northeast MS. I love hunting and just being outdoors, and reloading. I been lurking here as a guest for little while and it seems like a great community. My gun interest are mainly for the classics. Just about any walnut stocked controlled round feed deer rifle melts my heart lol. I love all guns push feed or automatic doesn't matter. I enjoy reloading for handguns especially, love revolvers colt, s&w, and others single action or double action.

Hello,
I'm known as Tuxedo 007. Glad I found this forum. Have been shooting & reloading for a looong time, but will try to contribute as well as learn. I am retired but try to stay active. Thanks for being here!

Hey all. I have been lurker for a while and joined up a while back. Been around guns, hunting and target shooting my whole life. I gravitated to rimfires and have just recently(last 6 months) expanded to center fire handgun for personal defense as well as the wonderful world of the AR! Located in south central Nebraska. GBR!

BPops is new here

Just joined this forum. Been cruising the "interwebs" and this looked like a place to stop. Just dropped a question about safes in the (I hope) appropriate thread. I'm looking forward to getting more info than I need ;>) My wife has started shooting recently (Glock 19 Gen 4 9mm). She likes the gun but I don't think it's a good fit for her...sorry, I digress. Anyway, looking forward to stimulating and educational conversations...

Hi, I'm a new member on this forum. I believe that every American can protect them-self from harm. I'm just an American with a family and Friends

Just joined THR. Live in New York State - Westchester County. In the market for my first gun. Thinking about the Ruger 10/22 Takedown. Any feedback on dealers would be appreciated. Also thinking of buying through Davidsons.

New (Old) Aussie here.

Hi folks, it is a pleasure to come across a shooting forum filled with interesting, mature and responsible folks.

I originally hail from Trinidad in the West Indies where my Mother's ancestors arrived in 1503 on the Third Voyage of Christopher Colombus from Northern Spain.

I arrived in Australia in 1974 whilst working as a Commercial Diver out of Singapore, I saw this wonderful vast and still wild land and never left.

Now married to a lovely little Aussie Lass for 32 years, I have two boys of 30 and 27 years old both of whom share my love of the outdoors, fishing, hunting and exploring this wonderful Country. As a family we have done the "Big Lap" (the around Australia off road trip) 4 times as they grew up, an investment that paid for itself by virtue of the fact that we have two young men who enjoy life immensely and neither drink, smoke or touch drugs.

Thank you for having me as a member on your site, I look forward to being amongst you for some while.

Intro

Howdy. I've officially been a member since December of '13, but have been inactive. Thought it was time to introduce myself. I'm currently in the Central Highlands of Arizona but I've hung my hat in many places. As my Username suggests, I enjoy hunting, among many other outdoor-related interests (including fly fishing, backpacking, overlanding, and fitness-related pursuits). But my major interest is firearms, which is why I joined THR.

Hello everyone!
We are a Firearms Instruction School and we have been on this forum previously as individual instructors on our personal accounts.

We are based in Illinois and are here to help answer specific questions that may arise. We have been specializing in Illinois Concealed Carry most of this year.

Thank you!

Hi Everybody!

Hey folks! I'm Nathan, or Nate (N8). Just registered here after I ceased to procrastinate the inevitable; arming myself for personal protection. I'm a relatively young guy, I'll just say "late 20's" to keep it simple. I knew this day would come, I frankly believe I'm pretty late to the party.

I am truly embarrassed, ashamed . . . I don't have the proper adjective to describe how I feel about my generation. They have sunk to a level I never thought I would even see. Violence for fun, like this "knock out game", the number of gang members and shootings that take place (sometimes over absolutely nothing!) on a daily basis and frequently kill or injure innocent people. It such a shame. No longer are Virtue, Integrity or "doing the right thing" cool and geez is it ever obvious!

I developed a very early interest in politics (I'd probably say unfortunately due to the stress it continuously produces, however I'd rather be well informed), around 13 and knew this was coming the first time I read (then truly spent probably months thinking about) Thomas Jefferson's Quote: "The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground." I guess you could say that was the moment I understood why God put me here. I came across my mission; to fight that 'natural progress'.
Throughout history this statement has proven itself true time and time again with literally no exception until the United States. Now I suppose that's even debatable after the installment of a mandatory income tax and FDR's wide sweeping policies. Haha, I won't even mention Mr. 0bama here.

HOWEVER! I really just want to say to the people reading this, how proud I am that I found a group like this (and the name simply couldn't be better) dedicated to the protection of the 2nd Amendment and dedicated to purporting the beliefs and changing the way people look at these "evil gun owners" who cling to their guns and religions (smh).
I'm proud to be here and look forward to a lot of productive discussions with many of you!

Your Brother in Patriotism,

new member

Hi everyone.

I'm a 30 year old financial advisor with a wife and 3 young kids. I am joining because since moving back to Iowa from CA I've resumed my childhood interest in guns (in the little bit of free time I have with kids). My dad also just passed along his father's guns to me and I have some questions about them (been doing a lot of research - this board was extremely helpful - the reason why I joined).

Here is my gun list:

2013 - Walther PPQ 9mm (my only purchase)
1990s - Ruger Mark III .22
1980s - Browning Buckmark .22
1970s - Mossberg 810A 30-06
1950s - Remington M58 16g
1950s - Remington 870 Wingmaster 12g
1950s - JC Higgins Semiauto .22 Rifle with original scope/strap
1930s - .410 "Tru-test" single shot break action - Model 44? (not sure)
1930s - Ranger .22 S-L-LR .22 - I believe it is a Marlin Ranger M34? (not sure)
1920s - Eibar Spanish "ruby" compact .25 (635) - engraved with pearl grips (not sure of details).

Hi folks. Just joined after lurking for a while. I shoot pistols, .45, 9mm, .380 and would like to get into reloading. THR looks like the forum that fits!

Looks like you folks have a pretty nice community here. I thought I might visit from time to time and maybe add something to the discussion.

New reloader

I use to reload shotgun for a long time. Then got out of if for years. Recently have picked up reloading for my rifles to improve my accuracy and manage recoil. Getting old and no longer like a bruised shoulder. I've always picked up my brass even long before and shortages of recent. So I've got brass 35 yrs old fired once.

My wife was at a yard sale a few yrs back and called me and asked if I wanted some reloading stuff. She describe a RCBS press, a bunch of sandwich sized green boxes, and boxes and boxes of cans of powder. There was also 4 big red things with long handles with the letters MEC label. Bags of wads, red yellow and white. And a garbage bag full of 12 ga AA hulls. The husband had left the wife for a young nurse and she was selling all his stuff. She wanted 10 bucks for everything. My wife wanted to know if I was interested and should she buy it. I told her to hand the lady a 20 dollar bill and pack that stuff up quick. Don't even ask for change.

New member - mature gun owner

Hi all...I stumbled onto THR a week or so ago whilst I was searching for tips on repairing my H&R model 929 revolver. It had a cylinder locking problem and I found some great hints and methods for repairing and re-assembling it on THR. I ordered the parts and made the necessary repairs. Now I need to get out and test fire. Wish me luck. I also own a Ruger security six .357 stainless which is my go to and has never let me down. I enjoy target shooting and may even venture into .50 cal. black powder once I retire. My buddy has been letting me shoot his rifle and is creating an interest in me. Currently I am gaining interest and ready to "pull the trigger" on a SR9C. The reviews seem to be good and its ambidextrous which allows this south paw to have a confortable feel with a clip release on the right side. Anyway thanks for reading and hope to converse with you sometime...
