Good morning all!

Just joined the forum after lurking for a couple weeks. I'm soliciting for some advice for a new handgun buyer. I've settled on a HK P2000, but I have two to chose from.

There is a very lightly used (no visible wear) one for $600 with night sights. The other is brand new with standard sights for $719. Both are V3, DA/SA, have the extra mag and backstraps. So what I get with the new is basically the lifetime warranty, but from what I understand, these guns have few issues anyway.

Is it worth it to buy new, or at this used price, should I just take my chances?

Thanks for the advice!

The used one with night sights sounds like a good buy. To be sure, see if the owner will go to a range with you to test fire it. If it shoots without any failures and feels good to you, deal! Make sure you shoot 2 clips.

GoodLuck!

Go used..... By the time you equip the new pistol w/ nite sights you'll have saved 200$$$$. You can't hurt an H&K anyway... I bought my USPc .40 8 yrs ago and put many thousand rounds downrange and still not the first hiccup:D

Depends on where or who you are buying from. If you are say buying from a large chain sporting goods store like Scheels a used gun can be a better way to go as they have a 30 day money back warrenty. You don't get that with a new gun but they will take care of it as they send the gun back to the manufacturer for servicing. You get stuck waiting for it's return though.
If you are buying from an individual that you don't know personally ask if you can try it out before buying. If that's not possable find out as much as you can about that paticular gun and find out what to look for. The more knowledge you have the better. LM

Thanks for all the replies! The used is from a dealer. I don't think they offer any guarantee but maybe I can make that part of the deal. Sounds like used is the way to go then?

Honestly, I'm almost to the point now where I trust used guns at least as much as new ones. The odds are, if it has a factory flaw it will have already been uncovered by the previous user. If they let you shoot it, you already know it isn't a lemon. But like you say, this is pretty rare for H&K in the first place.

Welcome to THR!

I would say go with the used one if you are able to test it at a range. As has been said, Night Sites will run you another $100+.

HK weapons are usually "bore-you-to-tears" reliable. But I would still try it out, make sure you like the way the trigger works.

Wasn't able to try it out first, but I came home the used one today! In addition to the night sights, it also had an unreturned warranty card and the receipt isn't marked used so it seems I will get the warranty anyway. This was a great deal!

Thanks for the imput!

I've gone with used several times. On a fair percentage of them I've had to send them back to the factory, but they came back good-as-new at no charge. I know you may not like this, but for me, all's well that ends well. I just bite the bullet and get it done. Usually just takes a few weeks.
