Hey Ya'll,

I've reamed out the throats on both of the cylinders for my 45 Convertible and I need some advice.

Do the throats need to be re-blued? If it is necessary can I do it with a cold blue kit or would that even survive being shot?

Thanks in advance for your help.

If in doubt, reblue. I do the cold blue 3 times, scrubbing gently with fine steel wool between coats. I've also found that rinsing in HOT water does two things: it helps the blue work better, and the warmed steel evaporates off the water that remains after hand drying. Will it stay through firing? Odds are good the throats will go black from powder residue anyway so it'll be hard to tell.:)

Don't bother.
Cold blue will offer exactly zero rust protection.

And it won't survive much more then half a box of ammo, if that, + cleaning afterward.

It is quite common for chambers to not be blued in the first place, or polished smooth afterward if they are.

Gentlemen,

Thank you for your help. This was my first try on anything like this but I knew this was 'old hat' for many of you. I'll just shoot these like they are for now. Who knows, someday if cabin fever sets in I might see if the blue will make any difference.

Thanks again,
