i picked up a a older leupold 1.75-6x scope and decided to mount it on my #3 in 45-70, this rifle has shot lights out before with the other scope and i have killed many deer with it. the load is 50 grs of H-4198 with, a remington 300 gr hp bullet that cronies over 1900 fps. i have loaded heavier, but this load is scrary accurett and gets the job done. this three shot group was the last three shots the fired after sighting it in at 100 yards in a lead sled. i will make a small adjustment before hunting.

Glad you found a good scope mounting solution! I ordered Weaver bases for mine and the front wasn't shaped to conform properly to the barrel taper -- once mounted, the bases weren't parallel.

I eventually went with a ghost ring aperture setup that I like much more than I probably should. Decent groups and no chance of scope bite.
