I'd ordered it back before Christmas during the sale and it arrived this week. I finally got it cleaned up last night (no pics yet), and I have to say, they have really, really, stepped up their game. I have two Piettas, brass Navy and Remington, that I bought back around '03. Let me tell you, in fit and finish, this new Army is every bit as nice, if not nicer, than the Uberti Dragoon and Navy I picked up last month. The case coloring is beautiful, and the bluing is fantastic. The grips are great, and have a nice bit of figure, especially for a pistol. My only, very tiny, complaint, is that the trigger, while very light (good) has a little bit of creep in it, whereas both Ubertis break clean. I'm hoping a little range time might smooth that out some.

If it shoots half as good as it looks, the price was a steal. I doubt I'll hesitate to buy Pietta in the future.

Now for a question- what purpose do the two extra screws on the frame (as compared to earlier Colts) serve?

Those screws are for the attaching the full length butt stock that is available as an option and which turns it into a shoulder fired weapon.

I just got a Pietta 1858 Remmy. Its very well made. I'm very pleased with it. Cabela's has jacked up their prices since Christmas.

Many products have a yearly price increase, including ammo.
Since Cabela's sale prices were among the lowest ever and for such a long period of time, I expected to see the prices increase.
And they may be relatively permanent.

Cabelas prices on the Pietta's tend to be unbeatable. There price on any given model do go up and down pretty often. Cabelas fiscal year is the same as the calendar year (so it just ended) I suspect some of there good deals they had toward the end of the year were partially in hopes of finishing off the year with some nice sales numbers to make investors happy. I would easily expect to see some sale prices drop down again sooner or later. Just save up your money and be ready to order. On top of great prices when you take into account the $20 & $30 off coupons they regularly have available and the "Cabelas Card" points on my VISA I pick one up for *FREE* about once a year.

I just received my 1851 navy from cabela's and for the life of me cannot figure how they made any money selling it for 129.00 out the door. If I knew it was going to look this good I'd have bought a couple more. I see there price has gone back up to 179.00 which I think is still worth it. The fit and finish, trigger and action are really nice. Can't wait to light it off.

Piettias Quality is really high now!

I understand that years back, they upgraded their quality and it really shows across the board on all their revolvers! I currentlly own 4 and the actions and finishes rival the old Ubertis! I also own a new Uberti London .36 whis an absolute Jewel! The action feels as if it were Tuned by a gunsmith it's sl smooth and light!
I think Cabela's is striving to be the top seller of Mail order BP revolvers and I applaud their efforts!
Pricing? well inflation has reared it's ugly head and unfortunatelly, we the consumer are taking a BIG hit from it. Look for Bargaqn Bin sales and closeouts. Prices are generally lower there.
One other product to look at is Triple-K leatber goods. They use thick leather in their Holster line and they are priced reasonably and are very well made!
My next purchase will be a '51 .36 caliber Navy. I love the .36 London so much and my .36 Piettia Police thaqt I want a plain vanilla .36 Navy Model!

Not sure if folks over here know about the "special deals" afforded by EMF.

I just ordered two 1860 Sheriff revolvers with short barrels. I sent EMF an email with a technical question (I wanted to know if they were made by Pietta as I had conversion cylinders on the way for 1860 Piettas)

The gal that answered the email told me to call her to order the revolvers. Upon calling her, she gave me $60 off because I signed up for their email "special offers blast"

She told me that they do not advertise the specials except to folks that are on their email list.

I suggest you go to the EMF web site and on the "contacts" page you sign up.

Tell them Roy B sent you...........

I just bought a set of 1860 Piettas with 5.5" round barrels (not even offered by Cabelas) for $230 each.

You won't know about the "Deals" unless you register. So how on God's green earth do you know the deals aren't as good as any other place...........

AND, if you don't want to be notified, don't sign up. No one is holding a gun to your head! As they say in Portuguese....."Mas fica"...(More for me)

Howdy

I bought a couple of Pietta 1860s from Cabelas a few years back. These were on special and if I remember correctly the price was right about $200 eack.

I was NOT particularly well impressed with the finish of these revolvers. There were burrs on the frames that should have been removed prior to color casing them. If I were to remove the burrs now, there would be white metal left behind and it would stand out like a sore thumb.

Question: Are there any burrs left on the outer surfaces of the frames of these newest Pietta 1860s?

rbertalotto,

A little heads up next time when you post pictures of brassers like that would be nice. Those things are soooo shiny, if I'd have known I'd have put my shades on before scrolling down!!

You gotta get out and shoot those things to bring down the shine a bit.;)

Have fun and take a shop rag with you to wrap around the loading lever, those shorties are hard on your hands.

Thanks Foto!

As soon as the foot of snow leaves I'll be able to get out and shoot them.

A few minutes ago, when the Patriots won, I nearly loaded them up to shoot blanks to celebrate!!

They will be nice and dull in a few weeks.......

Driftwood....

I've heard that before about Piettas. But these 1851s are near perfect. The only issue is the wood is rather proud around the grip frame. The UPS tracking site says my 1860 Piettas will be here between noon and 3pm tomorrow!

Malachi:
I think the reason they keep the sale items to subscribers only is there is extremely limited availability. We'll see when they post the next sale in February.
