In an earlier thread I floated the idea of evaluating multiple entry level rifles in .30-06 and comparing them to three .30-06 rifles I already owned. The short list of entry level rifles was the Remington 783, the Savage Axis and the Ruger American Rifle. My safe currently holds three other .30-06 rifles: A Browning Model 1885, a Weatherby Vanguard and a Tikka T3 Hunter.
However, money is a driving force in my life and such an experiment/evaluation will have to be done over an extended period of time. I will probably only be able to acquire test rifles one at a time and may have to liquidate one before buying the next one. But time is at a premium, too, so this could really get dragged out.

I did, however, stumble upon a Remington 783 at a better than excellent price and I could not resist buying the darn thing. It was a Gunbroker auction, but even with shipping and transfer, I was able to stay under the $300 mark. $294 to be precise. The auction stated that there was a 2-9x40mm scope included but when the shipping box was opened, viola`! No scope! Now don't get me wrong, not getting a silly-cheap scope was not a deal breaker and I would have taken it bare-naked at the auctioned price anyway. BUT, if it is advertized that way, shouldn't it be provided as advertized?

I sent the seller (a high count and excellent feedbacked seller at that) an e-mail requesting additional information regarding the "included" 3-9x44mm scope. We'll see what his response is.

Anyway, I'll try to do an evaluation of the 783 as time allows.
