Sumawolf-

Great story! My first deer w/ a shotgun was taken with buck. 40 yards, OO el-cheapo stuff, 3 pellets hit, one lung, one neck, one right in the back of the head. Not a step further!

Man, I REAAAAALLLLY dont like the lucky pellet theory, though a lot of guys buy into it and hold on.

BLAIN- 60 yards with buck and a specialized setup seems great. For me, and a standard setup, I wouldnt use buck past 30 or 40. I have seen too many aweful patterns surprise guys at the range. the average 3 or 4 marginal hits with 30 caliber roundballs at 50 yards doesnt get me all warm and tingly about the round. However, if you ahve a special setup, that gets you good results WAY WAY out to 60 yards, terrific!

I'll just have to settle for my "far far inferior" brenneke slugs or copper solids that are only quite devastating on deer, and PLENTY accurate, out to, oh, about double that.

Buckshot is terrific up close, but its not a whit superior to a slug on deer at any range unless you cant shoot. And I dont think thats you.

110 yards with buck shot? I am going to say wow. I see now that one pellet hit the head. So I buy it.

As stated above, "Slugs suck compared to buckshot" - on a deer - not really. On dangerous game there is no comparison. A hard cast Brenneke will penetrate about 4 feet and leave a .730 inch plus hole in its wake. The "buckshot" may just get you killed. Even the much more "effective" Dixie Tri-Ball will not get you that kind of terminal performance but it is much better than OO or OOO.

Wow, a 7 year old thread; quite a necro. Hadn't thought about Blain and his "ultimate" shotgun in a while, that was one hilarious thread.

Anyway, is Remington still producing Hevi-Shot buck? Do they sell it to reloaders? Anyone seen good testing of it, from Brassfetchers or someone?
