These have been around for quite some number of years now.

Your thinking its new speaks volumes about Remington's success (or lack thereof) in drumming up interest.

Remington = the new Colt.

That's Remington Defense's line for military. Not many people know about those special configurations. Remington doesn't advertise their military line very much.

Read the specs and answer your own question. For starters, it's not a .50 BMG rifle, so Barrett is not a comparison.

The float tube makes sense to me. Looks like a solid way to put a rifle together. I didn’t see much info on the barrel; hope they outsourced for that.

This weapon is getting actual field time right now in Afghanistan, those that got it seem to like it so far.

I demand proof! You hear that Remington?

Please send me one in .338 Lapua with a Schmidt and Bender on top and several pallets of .338 Lapua, Black Hills and RUAG please!

guys there are a large number of these chassis type systems out there right now

all have stocks/rifles that look quite similar to the rem.

point is a lot of folks are moving that direction because of the accuracy, weight, functionality, regardless of aesthetics.

you should look at each of those links as they are all pretty interesting.

very interesting weapons... I personally don't care for the aesthetics, but since they are intended for sniper weapons, they aren't really supposed to be seen anyhow :)

I'd love to get a chance to hold/shoot one, but since I doubt that'll happen, I'll just have to wonder...

If I'm shooting long range, I only need a handful of positions. The guys who use these can benefit from having combs, butt pads, and anything else on the stock adjust to give them a stable platform whether they are on flat ground, contorted around a boulder, or facing down an incline. We've had adjustable stocks like these before, these systems just take it to a new level and make the weapon lightweight, compact, and modular.

When I see features on weapons like these that make me scratch my head, I don't assume the feature is useless. I just assume I'm likely not a good enough shot to get much use out of it.

However, the MSR, like AI rifles, offers a "quick change" barrel system. If you watch the video in the link below, the barrel system on the MSR is very similar to that of an AR with a barrel extension and lug to index and a nut to hold the barrel in place. I like that the stock folds over the bolt handle. This results in a smaller package compared to an AI where the stock folds to the opposite side of the bolt handle. I prefer the AI's trigger, bolt and safety but it looks like the MSR only needs a bolt face swap to change from .338 LM to .300 WM to .308 Win. The AI can't do that with one receiver.

i like the MSR. just saying the concept isn't unique

David Tubbs is a decent shot........I've heard. Seems to win alot of 1k matches shooting PRONE.
The guy is Chuck Norris with a rifle.
His skills are top notch, but his weapons must be excellent.
His rifles are everything most shooters would want.
BUT>BUT>BUT..no 338 ultra or win mag? From remmy???
What the heck is going on? Hmmmm...
Buying and reselling are they?
