I'm buying a new hunting rifle tomorrow and wanted to get some feedback on my choice.

I am purchasing a Remington 700 CDL in 30-06. It is brand New and I'm paying $649.

It will be used for mid to large size game. Did I make a good choice?

Second Question would be What scope would you put on it?

Thanks in advance

sightron, nikon, leapers, bushnell elite, Tasco with firefly, weaver , burris, redfield, pentax, mueller. All these scopes you should be able to get for under 200. get you a nice 3.9.40, and you should be good to go.

g5reality, congrats on the Rem CDL 30-06. I'm a big fan of that combination. I've had the ADL for some time and still consider it a very good choice. Rangerruck hit about all the good medium $ scopes. They will all do the job after you get it sighted in.

Just DROSed it today. Have decided on a Bushnell scope either the 3200 3-9X40 or the 4200 2.5-10x40. I'm leaning toward the 4200 I already have one and like it very much.

I'll post a pic as soon as I have one.

Nice rifle. Might want to look at a Leupold scope in whichever of their price ranges that your budget allows.

I use Leupolds for two reasons:

1. Image quality and brightness

2. Eye relief is generally 4 inches which I need due to an old neck injury that doesn't let me get my head forward so as to use scopes with less eye relief.

G5reality;

You might want to poke around the various glass sites like Riflescopes.com, Bear Basin, Natchez, and Midway. Nikon is fooling around with their product line & the classic Monarch scopes can be had at very good prices these days. I've got a couple of Monarchs, along with a wide variety of other glass, and can heartily recommend them as quality units.

Nice choice of rifle for your use. The Elite 4200 has lots of fans, and if you're happy with the one you already have, I'd get another.

Perfect hunting rifle and caliber for anything in the lower 48, including moose!

Get a Leupold VXlll 3.5-10 scope. Or if you can afford it, get a Swarovski! But I certainly wouldn't put anything less than a top of the line Leupold on it.:)

Thank you all for your input I decided to go with the Bushnell 4200 in 3-9X40. I pick it up on the 11th and will post pics.

Thanks again.

I'm on my second Remington ADL in .30-06. I had a Redfield 3-9X40 on it forever however the last time at the range with that scope I could get better groups with the open sights. So after alot of scope hunting I settled on a Nikon Monarch fixed 6X42mm and the difference was incredible. I know that there is something wrong with the Redfield and need to send it in one day for repair, but that Nikon seems to be a very good scope and the groupings now are very good. I settled on the fixed power for the apparent improved reliability and inability to fuss with the power settings, removing a popular distraction whilst hunting.
