Noted, I'm new to rifle building.. I have another AR in 7.62 x 39 and have had AR in 9 mm, never had problems before.This one first actually in standard caliber .
Yes, definitely hammer spring is backward. Note how the legs in yours are coming out over the top of the hammer axis pin, and the pictures of it correctly installed, the legs come out from under the bottom of the hammer axis pin.

You should find the hammer once fully tensioned with a properly installed spring will give very reliable ignition of primers. Report back if this clears up your issue. Good luck and good shooting!
