As some of you read in my other thread i am going to be buying a .300 win mag very soon. Before i was set on buying a vanguard S2 but with the snow storm we had up here in washington last week ive got a big chunk of ot out of it.

The caliber is decided so if the rifle doesnt come in .300 win mag i dont wanna hear about it. Ive got about $650 to $700 max i want to spend and want a minimum 24" barrel. And want to buy new. I like the weatherby and i also have heard good things about savages lately...

Savage 114

Google up some pics/info on those. I handled quite a few other rifles but when I put my hands on that gun it was love at first feel. The walnut stock on mine is darn nice for the price. The 114 Classic has the hinged floor plate. The 114 American Classic has the detachable box mag. The stainless is actually cheaper than the blued. Picked mine up in SS w/ DBM new for $642 tax included. Oh and the barrel is 24" and comes in 300 win mag too.

What can you say about accuracy for the model 114?
No .300 win mag in stainless :(

I just bought it and haven't had a chance to pull the trigger on it yet. Of the rifles I was looking at, all were garaunteed MOA except the 114. Savage though has earned a reputation of being accurate. I read a few different times that if yr rifle doesn't get 1.5 MOA you can send it back and they'll fix it. I've read countless reports of them being much better than that. I, like you, was looking for a rifle that will be pointed at bear. You can drive yrself nuts reading through forums trying to find something that everyone likes, because it doesn't exist. No matter how good something is a handful of people hate it. Bottom line for me is, if you can hold a rifle steady that shoots 1.5 MOA you'll keep in the vitals for further out than what most people are capable of anyway.

Yea ive read a ton of reviews on top of skimming posts in here. Im honestly suprised i didnt get more feed back. Most people are quick to tell you about the best rifle on the planet that you can possibly hunt without
