I picked up my new Ruger SP101 with a 2 1/4" barrel.

This past weekend we made our first trip to the indoor range.

The Ruger performed well. Fit and finish it not quite equal to a Smith
and Wesson. But the gun feels like a solid workhorse. Balance is
wonderful. It begs to be slipped into a concealment hoster.

Going hot with it was too much fun. It was so nice to experience a gun
with which I could hammer rounds into the center ring right out of the box. I
picked it up fast and it felt at home in my hand.

Groups with .38 special were nice and tight at center mass. I did not measure the size of the groups but I was happy to see the bullet holes clustering tight enough to become one big hole.

Head shots were easy even at 15 yards. It shot high with .357 but I suspect that had more to do with my familiarity with the gun than the firearm itself.
As with my .45 I believe that the groups will tighten even more as I
become used to the sights and feel of this little snarling pitbull of a
gun.

As for recoil, the gun was damn pleasant with .38 specials.
Shooting .357 was not abusive, but it was handful and not something I
think I want to do a lot of in one sitting. Then again, I find .357 to be a physically tiring round out of any gun.

The only complaint I have about the gun is that the edge above the
trigger guard is a little sharp and tends to slice into my trigger
finger if I am not careful about how I engage the trigger. But this is something that is easily fixed and is hardly a big complaint in light of having a nicely balanced, reliable sidearm.

After about 100 rounds I am very pleased with my latest addition to the family.

What grain .357 did you use? I used the 125 jacked hollow point Saturday and it damn near took off my hand, even after switching to the 686.... :uhoh:

You know, I'm not sure what weight projectile I was using. There was a mix of practice loads. The .357 I bought over the counter at the range and the other rest was some generic .38 specials that I picked up at a gun shop in Arizona. I shudder to think what a full on hydra shok might feel like. And they're pounders through a 4" Smith K frame.

I really, really want a 3" SP101. It's probably next on my list. Every time I hold one it's begging to come home with me. I'm happy to hear all of the good reviews on them.

I have had a SP101 for a couple of weeks now and have been very pleased with it. I have not had a chance to shoot it very much but the two times out with it were positive. The heavier loads of 357 were a bit much for my lil hands and my barrel is a 2.25 inch. The WWB stuff was very manageable though.

Also bought some Hogue Coco Bolo wood grips and they are an absolute dream. Had no problems whatsoever getting them on and the feel is amazing, not to mention the pistol looks even better now. Sorry no pics guys.
