Hi guys and gals,
There's a lack of pics of the Ruger New Vaquero Montado on the web so I figured I'd post mine. I got lucky and checked the Davidson's website when they had 2 .45cals in stock. I picked it up from my FFL yesterday. It's a very good looking gun. The grip is not as roomy as my Old Vaq but it's also a more all around trim pistol. The spur seems to be in a more intuitive position for repeated one hand firing. The loading gate action is very gritty because of casting marks, I'm sure that will smooth through use.
Mine is a later model so it doesn't have the grooved front strap, removing it was apparently a Ruger concession to CASS shooting or something. I don't keep up with that really. As I found someone stating on another forum the ejector housing along the barrel is a little more of a dull finish than the barrel and gun, although it is ferrous not aluminum even though it looks like it. I can't say much more about it without a trip to the range.
Oh and the 2 rounds in the first pic are not factory ammo if someones trying to figure out what brand of ammo, they're hand loaded Speer flying ashtrays.
Sorry for the quality...phone pics
