New S&W 617

I've been busy with this 617, making it "Mine"

I added a Dawson F/O front sight along with a "trimmed for speedloaders" Hogue Big Butt grip.

I did some internal smoothing, installed a 12# rebound spring and took down the strain screw to give me a 7.8# trigger pull. The gun is reliable with 2 different Federal 22's and CCI Mini-Mags

I also re-contoured the trigger face. I prefer a more rounded profile. The visible portions of the hammer & trigger were also polished then "scratch finished"

Nice work.

As far as the trigger, smooth is more important that light, even when the timer's running. I've seen numerous wheelgunners outrun their front sight when they lightened the action. ;)

As far as rimfire steel matches, the 10-shot 617 is an excellent choice, IMO. A few years ago, I used my bone-stock 4" 617 at a major rimfire steel match. IIRC, I was the only revolver shooter, but finished the top shooter during the handgun portion (eh...rifle...not so much ). The semi-auto shooters I saw all had numerous malfunctions during the match, whereas I had none, so I was essentially given time by my choice of gun.

Thats a great looking gun Russ, what height and width Dawson sight did you end up with?
