I got to hold one today, one of each size, and am impressed. It's remarkably well balanced, particularly the 4.25 inch version. Yes, the grip frame is similar to other double stack 1911s, but it felt good in the hand and the trigger was in the right location for my finger, something I have had trouble with in dealing with double stack pistols in general. The slide to frame fit was excellent, and, as a youtube commenter said, felt like it was sliding on ball bearings, particularly on the 5 inch version.

Has anyone here got to shoot one yet? What were your impressions?

I tried to win one by typing in the number to the safe, but my number wasn't the winner.

Got the 5 inch version on pre order for 1400 bucks.

I hope they sell em by the boat load.

In my area, staccato is impossible to get ahold of. But yet I can buy all the Atlas gunworks 2011s I want at 7 grand a piece.

Dropping 1400 on the springfield 2011 is a far easier pill to swallow than a custom built gun when you trying out a new platform such as the 2011.

this will definitely give other 2X 1911 gun makers a run for there money, competitors is always good

I was able to handle both of them on Thursday and agree on how well balanced the 4" version is. The Colin Noir review has a pretty good description of the trigger.

I'm a big 2011/2011ish fan and have the Staccato P and C2 as well as the EDC X9 and EDC X9S. I don't need another one but am happy to see Springfield release this, especially with it ready to take a red dot at this price point. SA seems to be on a roll as of late, with the release for the SA-35 and now this.

On a fakebook post, springfield said staccato and mbx mags interchange.
The mags are stamped Duramag, Duramag is a brand name of C products which made a ton of AR15 mags.

I've read the staccato mags are good to go, and got the impression that duramag copied the staccato mags.

One of my guys asked me for the OK to carry a Prodigy. Based on the reviews and SA’s reputation for making good 1911’s, I gave him the ok, provided a quality holster good for plainclothes duty use is on the market for it. ( I will hope Staccato rigs will work, these guns look to be close in dimensions.)

If he gets one I’ll try to finagle a shoot with it to compare with my other SA 1911 guns.

Stay safe.

I have a 4.25" Prodigy but haven't been able to shoot it yet. Got it the day it released - volunteered as a beta tester, please thank me for my service.

I'm hearing... Mixed things. Many seem to agree that the slide -to-frame fit is fantastic, the grip is better than Staccato's. But the trigger is pretty bad, there are concerns about the finish wearing and then the slide-to-frame fit getting sloppy.

A lot of initial reviews seen to depend on whether or not the reviewer was given a gun by SA or whether they bought it themselves, and I'm hearing a lot of failure to feed reports from people who bought them themselves.

That being said, I'm wondering if using a 2# heavier recoil spring and Staccato mags instead of the OEM Dura-Mag ones would make it run right.

I took a STI gen 2 magazine and a dummy round to the store, it worked fine in the DS they had.

I have heard it said that all SA 9mms are under sprung; my MixMaster has a stouter recoil spring than stock and functions well.

The guns are heavy, 33 oz on the SA site is nonsense. Maybe 43. Nothing I want to carry for duty or defense and I have a real STI for matches.

Oh yeah they're heavier than 33 oz. I'll stick mine on the scale before I post my range report.

hopefully it will be backwards compatibility! STi $80 mags are over the top

Strikes me as a range toy or competition piece more so than self-defense EDC piece. Nice to see SA trying to appeal to that market segment.

Personally I consider the 9mm to be to the pistol world what the 38 Special is to the revolver world, so at the suggested price, I just can’t justify spending that for a 9mm. For me, the utility of the 9mm pretty much tops out at a Glock price-point. I also can’t warm up to the 9mm in a 1911-style platform either and have never figured out the appeal. I mean, go 38 Super or get out of the way.

Think I’ll pass on the 9mm and wait to see if they come out with a 40 (think DWX that we never saw).

I wish I knew SA was bringing this out before I got my Staccato P last month.

We had four in our shop and they are nice. Mags are just like the ones that Dawson Precision builds for Staccatos (down to the base plate standings) and they are completely interchangeable. Now to see what price point SA sells the mags at.

Knowing SA, I would almost bet a 10mm or 45ACP or two tone version is in the works. Just got to see if they can get some mags built for those calibers. Poor Para Ordnance tried with their 14.45, but maybe technology has caught up with the double stacked big bores.

40 or 10mm or .45, in 4.25” with affordable & reliable mags! now we talking

It looks like a good gun on paper. I hope it becomes success for SA.

For those of you that have one, please keep us updated.

I think they made a good commercial move replicating the 2011, but I will have to see other calibers to believe they will go to the trouble.

A dedicated 9mm with 1911 lockwork like the Wilson EDC9X series or the hypothetical DWX would make a lot of operational sense if you didn't mean to address the .45-10mm niches.

On reddit, a rep for dura mag stated they were working on these mags before SA stepped into the picture.

For the short time being, SA will be the source for mags. Dura mag also said they are working on other calibers for the 2011 lineup and other pistol platforms.

From what I've read the 5in models are experiencing issues, due to possible light recoil springs.

Good luck. SA was not able to reliably clone the BHP I am have Zero faith that this thing will run 100% right out of the gate. Keep us updated.

I bet STi is making their guns or at-lease the main parts. That’s what SA does best, outsourcing

If they care to sponsor Team Mediocre to show it off, I will treat it like a SA, not try to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
First shoot some to check for gross faults calling for warranty repair.
Second correct minor flaws, don't throw money at it, if I wanted an expensive gun, I would have got on board with SVI.

the age of expensive guns might be slowing down! I thinks guns are really good & good price these days
