Nice pistol. I've never owned one but I shot a Beretta 92 years ago at a rental range. I believe you will like it.

I used to talk trash on berettas when I was a 1911 fanatic. I actually bought a 92s and learned they are intuitive pointers for me. The grip angle is just best. I shoot that better than any other gun save the cz75 clone I own. Better than the Glock or 1911. I loved my Glock but comparatively I always had to compensate for a lack of natural alignment. I also hate that I could feel the balance change as the mag emptied. It was odd.

I have several variations (though not an X) and love them all. Not sure which plastic bits the X has- the regular 92s come with a polymer mag release, safety lever, trigger, guide rod, and mainspring plug. These are easily swappable if the steel parts are in stock, however. Ive done the steel upgrade to all my 92s and it makes a big improvement in the feel of the gun, IMO.
I think you will like it if it fits your hand.

I carried a M9 Beretta on a few deployments along with a rifle. It was okay. I qualified expert with it but not really hard in AF if you can shoot decently.

They are definitely heavy but that helps in many ways.

I don’t own one…I mainly live in the dark world of Glocks…

It should come with a "D" spring mainspring that makes the double action trigger pull lighter than a standard 92FS. However, you can go with an even lighter mainspring to lighten the DA trigger even more.

Along with Beretta https://www.beretta.com/en-us/gun-accessories/handguns/

both Wilson Combat and Langdon Tactical Tecnologies (LTT) support the Beretta 92 Series

Wilson https://shopwilsoncombat.com/Beretta-92_96/departments/465/

LTT https://langdontactical.com/

from the LTT FAQ page https://langdontactical.com/faqs

Combined with our Trigger Job in a Bag kit and the following hammer springs, your DA/SA pull weight will be approximately:

  • 11# DA: 5.3 to 6 lbs
  • 12# DA: 5.6 to 6.4lbs
  • 13# DA: 6.3 to 7lbs
  • 14# DA: 7 to 7.5lbs
  • 16# DA: 7.2 to 8 lbs
Please keep in mind that below 13# on a 92 series pistol, some primers may not ignite reliably - 12# and 11# hammer springs should only be selected for home-loaders and seasoned pros.

I thought everyone had at least one Beretta 92 by now. Yes... fantastic pistols is not saying enough. I Dont have the X but My Vertec Elite IIIA Brigadier is similar to that image. The design and action of the 92 is so smooth everything else seems gritty. Great triggers. There is really nothing to be done to the pistols to make them better. First centerfire pistol I bought as a kid (paperoute money) was the 92FS. Years later I too qualified with it in Basic training/AIT.

I like Taurus versions a lot as well. Its just a great design. The Original 951 single stack single actions are not to shabby either you just have to go a little easy on them.

Very easy to shoot well. Even when I was 13 years old I had no problems. Soft and smooth shooting, Accurate, lots of quality and not cheap/cold feeling like a polymer framed pistol. I really hate the plastic triggers they use now but they are replaced easily enough. I think Beretta was just trying to keep the costs at a certain pricepoint when they used the steel re-enforced plastic parts. A basic stock 92FS is stll pretty competitively priced all things considered.

I actually prefer the Stock 92fs to the vertec frames because I grew up shooting them. If you are a 1911 lover then Vertec is the way to go.

For me they have always been the Cadilac of 9mm wondernines and still are. Full size pistols of course but they carry nice. When I carry one its typically in a shoulder holster but I can do IWB or OWB easily enough.

I would think if the Berettas grip is large for you, most of the others would be as well. I wear a size L/XL glove, depending on make, and have or have had most of the major service type handguns, and never found any of them to differ much. The exception being maybe the Glock 21.

Even though I swore off Beretta after my M9A3 fiasco. The compact 92x followed me home. Beretta actually followed through with sending me my free red dot mounting plate.

It's a nice shooting gun that rekindled some DA/SA love to the point I saw a Sig P229 that I just had to have as well.

It helps if you have big hands. For those of us with smaller hands, not so much.

I have the same problem with the M92 standard grip: too much of a reach to the trigger and I can't get comfortable with grip shape itself. The only Beretta M92 models that work for me are the Vertec straight backstrap versions, like the M9A3.

The "D" spring modification is a must. On mine, I went further and disabled the decocking feature. Now, putting the safety on renders the gun safe but the hammer stays cocked. (This involves removing the release lever and substituting the spacer from the "D" version.)

No need for the "D" spring modification for the OP, he bought a 92X that comes with the "D" spring installed. He can modify that spring if he wants, but no sense going out and buying a "D" spring since there is one in the gun already.

The X comes with two grip options. One is thinner panels with a straight back 1911 style.

I would like to add a full size straight backstrap example at some time. Perhaps an original Vertec can be found. I saw one a few years ago, but it had seen hard duty.

The Vertec frames are pretty nice. I get a little bit of friction rub on the bottom of the groove backstap but the angle is nice. If the standard feels to big for someone the vertec is deffinitly the way to go. They just dont quite feel like a Beretta 92 to me anymore because I got so use to the Standard model. Its all just a preference for feel on my part though. I shoot both about the same. I hated that plastic trigger on my elite though. That went bye bye pretty fast. I left the polymer guide rod. Its held up fine.

Only reason I bought the Elite was because It is in a film I like a lot. I got a good deal on it. Still have an original streamlight M3 mounted on it like the film. Im a sucker for Movie guns. Whole reason I bought my first Beretta 92FS as a kid was because of Lethal Weapon and Die Hard.

My actual carry 92 is a taurus (2nd gen style) because I like the safety a little more. I might try a Beretta 92D (DAO) eventually.

Yeah, Beretta warranty service is the worst.
