New sig p238 recoil spring?

good morning,
Sig just sent me a new recoil spring, i guess they updated it, they call it a flatwire...does anyone know what was wrong with the older one this one is replacing? or why Sig thinks the newer one is needed?

The flatwire spring allows more room for the spring to compress before it goes solid and starts battering your frame. It is to address the issue of not enough designed travel in the spring tunnel
