I'd been thinking about adding another Sig for a while. I always say I'm not a fanboy of theirs, but some of their products are too innovative to ignore sometimes and their service, the couple of times I've needed it was superb.

I had been shooting a P226 Legion SAO regularly for a couple of years. It never disappointed me, a really nice pistol that I probably should have kept around. Unfortunately, with innovation comes new desires and I replaced my 226 with a Staccato P a while back. I have no regrets, the Staccato was an upgrade, but I kinda missed having a classic P series Sig around.

So, I asked my local dealer that handles L.E. Sig sales if they could get me a 229 Legion SAO L.E. I wanted the LE version as it's finished with nitron, not cerakote and also has an optic cut. Amazingly, a week later they called and said it was in.

I took it out for its first shots today, and am pleased to say it shoots about as well as its bigger brother. It puts a smile on the face, and that's all that matters.

I have used a number of traditional SIGs (P220, P226, and a P228) over the years but I have yet to try out an SAO version. Will eventually get around to it one of these days. Still playing around with my P229 with the SRT.

Which caliber is it in?
They're only offered in 9mm these days.

The SAOs are my favorite Sigs. I don't much care for DA/SA pistols much, but if you like 19 or 2011s it's a really nice option.

Couldn't keep both the 226 Legion SAO and the Staccato, eh? I was involved in a range session and got some rounds downrange with the P model; it shot well and was somewhat intriguing, but I guess I haven't evolved to the point yet where I want a tricked-out 1911 that's not a single-stack .45. Would be interesting to do a side-by-side shooting comparison with both, though.

I initially was not a fan of SIG's flat triggers, but for the two I've got (226 SAO and 365XL) they've grown on me. The 226 SAO Legion is just a treat to shoot; the trigger is phenomenal, and the accuracy is astounding -- the pistol not only makes me look good, when family and friends try it out, wide smiles result. If I were still in a uniformed carry position, it'd be the duty pistol I'd want I've not invested in the 229 version yet, although I have a standard 229 Legion (been too busy back in the revolver world or trying to up my striker-fired pistol game the past couple years) -- but now that it comes optics-ready, thanks for reminding me to put another one back on the list, CNobbe!

Well, part of it came down to the lack of optic readiness with my 226. If I wanted an optic, I'd of had to buy an optic ready slide for $5-700, buy a new gun, or have it milled. The Legion slide w/ Romeo1 was $700, meaning I'd have something like $1800 invested in a 226. I figured if I was gonna spend that much I may as well scratch another itch.

The P wasn't my first 2011 though, I've had a few over the years. Not until recently could you get an optic ready 2011 for less than $4k, the P was a bargain by comparison.

I know the LE/MIL only 226/229 Legions are cut for an optic, but the regular models are either slide w/ optic (R1P) or without. Kinda bugs me, I think they should offer all of the Legions w/ the cut.

I just got this one because I didn't have a P226 and people say they are the best model Sig ever made. It will have an SRT kit I bought for it and that is about all I am gonna do on this P226 R .357 gun. Gonna buy a couple 15 round mags for it , they are on their way. I have a light bearing holster made for it and will use an Olight Mini2 Valkyrie I have on it . Seems a little better than my Beretta Centurion 92 , and the caliber is Kick Butt ! $550 with two 12 rnd mags and looks very little used.

I bought a police trade P239 in 357 Sig, added a .40 barrel to it. Was one of the nicest shooting pistols. Got me thinking that as most agencies/departments have switched to polymer guns in the last decade we won't see many desirable surplus guns anymore.
