My grandpa has been hunting with a full choke sears single shot for like 300 years. It is now alarmingly loose and the forearm is duct taped on.

It seems new quality single shots are hard to find. He refuses to use a H&R because of the design of the latch, he wants one with the regular style latch, and he doesn't want a double or repeater.

We have loaned him autoloaders, 870's, but he ends up using his Sears. I want to find him a shotgun he will use or else he will keep using his sears and I'm worried about it being unsafe.

For the record, I prefer the older style lever myself.

Before stressing out over this, take that thing to a good smith. Tightening it up may be no big job. Sometimes a new oversized pin has to be installed, sometimes the lug just has to be massaged with a big hammer.

If that doesn't do it, look around for old H&R singles in good shape. There's still a few...
