Just bought a new SP101 with the 3" barrel. This one's in .327 Federal. Have a S&W 632 .327, which is having problems with reliable ignition, may have to send it in for service.

Thougth I'd just try the Ruger - I think this is the ticket, heavier mainspring, beefier hammer - shot it the first day and having no problems.

With the 115g speer gold dot factory loading, averaging 1438 fps! Wow! I mean, this is beating my 3" .357 with 125g loads! This is definitely not your fathers .32!

The 115g gold dots recoil like a light .357 load. The 85g American Eagles (brass cases in the pic) are a pussy-cat.

Got to shoot it some more, but this may wind up being my new CCW.

I mean, it seems like one quality hunk of stainless steel!

I have the same gun and love it to death, ammo is hard to find at the LGS but its a great round if you ask me.

Nice. I'm looking to get a 2.25" version for carry (357). Nice guns for sure.

I get 1400fps with 125gr XTP out of my 3" .357 magnum SP101 measured 10' from the barrel. It's a hoot.

Very nice. One of those is on my short list. I re-load, so .327 ammo is never scarce, and is fairly cheap for me.

I already have the 2.2" Charter in .327, but would love that 3" Ruger too.

Really nice gun there. If only .327 Federal brass was easier to obtain... even so, I am still thinking of getting one (or a GP100) in .327 Federal.

I have the SP101, 3-1/16" in .357- interestingly, it came with the Hogue rubber grip instead of the smoother rubber ones most commonly seen...??? Brand-new, too.

Is that a hand load? I generally don't get more than 1300 fps with 357 125g factory loads out of a 3".

Nice gun. I too love the SP101. A 2" .357 model is my edc. If the. 327 takes like I hope it will I may have to get me one in a year or two from now. I am still waiting to see how the cartridge will fair with some time. Then again maybe there are too many of us doing exactly that. Hahaha

Congrats on a fine revolver. It will serve you well for many long years no doubt.

I also have the 2.25" .357. I've had it for almost a year now. Hogue grip just came in the mail yesterday and tritium front sight is on the way - to celebrate its birthday...

I carry it in a crossbreed supertuck with a good amount of forward cant and it hides well even under a t-shirt. congratulations on yours.

My g/f carries a 2.25" .357 version of the same. Bought it used with Pachmayr grips already on. It is great to shoot, but does make quite the muzzle blast with .357 at the indoor range!

A few weeks ago at the range, she unloaded a cylinder into 4" at 25yd.

I have owned Rugers and never liked them.

A 3 inch 357 SP101 might change my mind.

You should give it a shot. Who doesn't need a gun that's barely bigger than a j-frame that will smirk at a prolonged diet of full-power, fire-breathing, .357 loads?

Objectively speaking, I don't think that there's a better a CCW revolver out there.

Mark me down as another convert.

Mine is a 3" .327, and although I haven't found any loaded ammo or brass yet, I can tell you it shoots .32 Mag like a dream. Exceptionally accurate, even better now with a Wolf reduced power mainspring, and a beautiful set of Badger Secret Service grips, purchased from a fellow forum member here.

Very nearly perfect as a carry gun, IMHO.

To the OP that is a very nice revolver. My dad has the same thing but in just .38 special. He bought his the first year they came out and he loves it and takes it everywhere with him. Not one problem with it yet.

I recently bought a very lightly used (one cylinder fired through by the original owner) 2.25" DAO .357. I took it out the other week and was super impressed with it. Easily hitting clay pigeons at 15 yards on essentially every shot. It's loud as sin, though. I'd highly recommend this gun.
